  • Vaccination is encouraged and those children involved with exposure to a confirmed case may be subject to an order of exclusion, if unvaccinated.
  • The Ocean County Health Department continues to support and highly encourage the exclusion of non-vaccinated children from schools, preschools and daycares in the outbreak area. • People can become ill from measles from 5 to 21 days after being exposed to the virus.
  • Measles-like symptoms include fever, rash, runny nose, cough, loss of appetite and pink eye.
  • Measles can spread through coughing and sneezing and can live on surfaces and in the air for up to two hours.
  • 30% of measles cases involve additional serious health complications.
  • The Ocean County Health Department continues to communicate and coordinate daily with the State of New Jersey Department of Health and other healthcare providers in response to the measles outbreak.

  1. Just wondering what the point is to keep spreading the hock about the measles. It just creates more hate and negativity and doesn’t accomplish anything. I think by now, everyone got the message to beware and vaccinate and those who unfortunately still hold strong in their misguided views, won’t change bec there are more cases. Yes, my kids are BH vaccinated but at end of day, we need Hashem’s protection.

  2. I don’t consider myself an anti vaxxer, nor am I all for vaccination, but, I do think that people have the right to make choices whether or not to vaccinate. From all I’ve read, unvaccinated people are not a danger to others.

  3. To my take:

Ummmm how are they not a danger to others? We lose herd immunity bec of anti vaxxers. You want to say they have a right to make their own decisions based on their beliefs- that’s up for discussion. But not a danger to others? That makes no sense.

    • There’s no such thing as herd immunity. It is just another hoax to convince unsuspecting people. The only real immunity is what the Almighty gave us: natural immunity. Measles, mumps, and rubella used to be considered childhood diseases that were and still are treated like a cold. Today they are treated as of they are debilitating diseases. Unfortunately, since the MMR vaccine sheds, the vaccinated are spreading the disease to others especially adults when it becomes much more severe.

  4. that would be the perfect solution to all the anti vaxxers. if the vaccines shed then all the vaccinated children will get the disease and give to the unvaccinated public which would terrific because measles is the best thing that can happen. unfortunately for you guys though the vaccine shedding isn’t a phenomenon you can actually rely on largely because its a hoax to convince unsuspecting ppl. also unfortunately for you guys measles aint no cold. and unless you consider hospitalization the treatment for a cold, is aint treated like one either. This is another hoax to convince unsuspecting ppl who are now sharing all their diseases with the medically fragile community. yasher koach! I’m sure you are doing this l’shaim shamayim.

  5. Just went through US Vital Statistics. Number of Measles cases in 1963 estimated at 4 million (entire birth cohort).

Number of actual deaths from measles: 364.
Number of deaths from influenza: 7083
Number of deaths from acute upper respiratory infections (common cold): 867

    • I think you’re trying to bring out that the death rate was a tiny fraction of teh disease rate. The idea is that compared to the 1800s – when there were pagues and many dying, it was down to almost nothing – and this was before widespread use of vaccines!
