The driver seen nearly striking a Lakewood girl as she got off her school bus has been charged, police said today.
As first reported by The Lakewood Scoop, a girl was almost struck by a passing motorist as she stepped off her bus and onto the roadway back on. Home surveillance video obtained by TLS captured the 2012 Nissan wagon as it narrowly missed the young girl while illegally passing the school bus. The investigation revealed that the bus driver did activate the flashing red stop lights and safety arm, as required.
“Further investigation by Traffic Safety Officer Alex Guzman resulted in the identification of M. Diaz of Toms River as the operator of the 2012 Nissan,” police said. “As a result, Diaz received motor vehicle summonses for Improper Passing of a School Bus and Reckless Driving. She is expected to be in court later next month.”
so then why is it that whenever there is an article any where about something that happened in Lakewood, they blame the Jewish community.
how many of the last couple of driving related incidences actually involved the so called “carelessness of the Jewish community”?
I agree.
I’ve observed many near miss instances on the road that weren’t from our community, but the convenient blame is.
Anon I totally agree with you this is a major problem, how many accidents and fatalities due to motor vehicle accidents are blamed on us when it has nothing to do with us. Good job by LPD for locating the driver
It’s true that the car went past the bus and almost caused a huge tradegy. However, the bus was so far from the curb… why didn’t he pull over closer to the sidewalk??
It doesn’t matter how far the bus was from the curb. You are not allowed to pass it if it’s lights are on! It is illegal and dangerous.
the bus is supposed to stop in the road not pull over
Passing any vehicle on the right (even if they are making a left turn) is illegal
@Me2
The bus stopped correctly. That part that you you isn’t a lane, it’s a shoulder.
In fact it’s very much in accordance to stop where it did.
Thank you Officer Guzman! You are a credit to the LPD!
Lots of thanks to our wonderful Police.
Improper passing and wreckless driving? That’s it?? How about attempted murder? He should at least have his license revoked!!
My2cents. So illegally passing a bus shouldnt be improper passing and reckless driving which is what they did. It should be a felony charge of attempted murder which they didnt attenpt to kill anyone. Also, forget the point system for losing your driving privileges. One violation and your revoked. You might want to calm down a bit. Or seek professional help.
Yes, she/he should get a stiff fine. Who doesn’t know that a stopped school bus with lights on is a reason for YOU to stop, even if the bus was stopped in the middle of the road. And to pass on the right when kids are getting out???
To say that they blame the Jewish community for wreckless driving is and understatement. I invite ANY police officer, ANY Rabbi any news reporter from TLS to dive with meon any given day during the week, then compare it to Friday night through Sat night. And let the video PROVE what people say about driving in Lakewood. YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS STUFF UP. I SEND ANN OPEN INVITATION TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE READING THIS.
For all those wondering about the light punishment, they obviously don’t know the details of these tickets.
Improper passing of a school bus and reckless driving combined get you 10 points. They also get you a $450-$550 fine, mandated court appearance, and possible jail time of up to 75 days. Also possible license suspension. Insurance will also go crazy up.
For those asking for felony murder charges, they are clearly not aware of the law. You can’t get charged with attempted murder for doing dangerous things. That is for ATTEMPTED MURDER.
No one said the Jewish drivers drive safe. All that was said was that it’s ALL lakewood drivers that drive bad and there is no reason to always blame the Jewish community when the last couple of serious accidents didn’t involve anyone from the Jewish community at all.
So all that was said is stop always placing the blame on the Jews. And drivers on Friday night and Saturday drive just as crazy. There are just less cars on the road. Still the same 10 percent of drivers that drive like maniacs.
I’ve always wondered this too. Why do people always blame the Lakewood community? Whenever I see reckless driving , it’s almost always not from Lakewood.
