BREAKING: Aid-in-Lieu Funding Increases In New State Budget

Transportation funding for children in New Jersey who are mandated to receive busing but do not, will be increased by $143 per student, from the current $1,022 to $1,165.

The funding, also known as aid-in-lieu, is provided to parents of eligible school children so they can arrange their own transportation.

The $54.3 billion budget, which was just unveiled this afternoon, is an agreement between Governor Phil Murphy and Legislative leaders and must be signed before the July 1st deadline – which is at 11:59 tonight – or else the government will be forced to shutdown.

Although the budget is being voted on very late – even by Trenton standards, it is expected to be passed and signed today.
