New Jersey Senator and 2020 hopeful Cory Booker has reintroduced a bill in the Senate called the Marijuana Justice Act which would remove marijuana from the list of controlled substances, effectively making it legal at the federal level. The bill would also clean the slate of individuals who had previously been convicted for marijuana-related offenses. The bill is similar in its reforms to the First Step Act which reformed criminal justice protocols and sentencing guidelines which Booker also sponsored. The Marijuana Justice Act was originally proposed by Booker in 2017.
Booker is not the only Democratic presidential contenderpushing for the bill’s passage. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Kamala Harris (D-CA), and Bernie Sanders (D-VT) are all co-sponsors of the proposed legislation.
The bill comes as the Democrat Party continues shifting to more liberal policies and public opinion continues to change in support of marijuana legalization.
New Jersey politicians, led by Governor Phil Murphy, have been trying to advance legislation on the State level. If Booker’s bill is successful, New Jersey would be one of ten states and Washington, DC in which marijuana would be completely legal.
This is just another reason that shows us how stupid and destructive the liberals are.
