FIRST REPORT: [VIDEO] (Updated 3:45 p.m.) The Lakewood BOE voted earlier today to make one last appeal to the State Department of Education to save the three programs operated by Tiny Tots. Failure to obtain approval by 4PM today will result in the District taking the programs in-house,
to be operated by the public school District. A motion by Board member Isaac Zlatkin to allow Tiny Tots and Ready, Set, Grow to continue operation of the programs with local taxpayer support, as in past years, failed to gain the necessary 5 affirmative votes.
Many parents who waited from 8:30 to be heard, were frustrated, when the Board adjourned at 11:25 without allowing any public comment.
Stay tuned as we bring you the latest developments in this cliffhanger.
Can you explain yourself?????????It is totally unclear what is going on.
yes it is totally unclear
what are the chances the state would allow 50 children already in tt to become public funds
Seems like the boe members realize its not going to happen!!
What’s plan B??
So, can someone explain why 50 students (not special needs) should be funded by tax dollars, to attend the TT program? I don’t get it.
Can anyone explain why this never happen before??
Do the new BOE members take responsibility for this problem??
i think my comment on this article is fully within the guidelines please post it.
Can anyone explain to me why the taxpayers, have been paying 2 million dollars a year to TT for a program of little benefit??? Why have the older board members allowed us to get bilked all these years??!! About time someone stood up and said ENOUGH!
so if all children are funded by tax payers, there is no tuition. Right? Also who decides who gets exepted?
The regular ed children are State funded. By including them in the equation you are allowed to use the State funding for the other children as well. If they are not included, the entire special ed division is local taxes.
some thing is crazy about the whole thing, why don’t they have to show where all the $$$ is going??????
michael running the show
To In The Know: I read your reply 10 times and I have no idea what you are saying. Why are 50 students being paid by state funds for TT? Can you please explain.
to the TLC: please make things a bit more clear, thanks.
Whats going on, why should 50 students get funded for free if they are not in the public schoo?
THE ARTICLE IS NOT AT ALL UNDERSTANDABLE. PLEASE UPDATE US ASAP!!!
The State has a program that they pay for regular education children for pre school. If those children are enrolled in the PS, and the District decides to outsource 50 of those children to TT, then the same funds can be used. The only question is if TT can get the same children that they already enrolled to their program, to be switched over to the PS enrollment, thereby not requiring any new space.
If the 50 students can be enrolled, then some of the funds can be used for special ed students as well.
I have no probleme with micheal but where the heck is the president of the board who should be running this meeting?
Thank you #17. So let me understand this… Based on what criteria does the State (our taxes) pay for these 50 children to get free pre-school? It is not based on special needs as these are not special needs kids. Is it based on financial status? Why the magic number 50? Are there any additional costs to sending these 50 kids to the TT program VS. regular Public School?
catapult is also having major problems getting the contract
They are paid for by the State to allow for an Inclusion Program whereby other children that require some special ed have the ability to be mainstreamed.
This is not going to add any cost to the local taxpayer.
I don’t mind the State trying to clean-up Lakewood. It’s long overdue. By why take it out on the kids? Get rid of the corruption at the top of the pyramid. Work with the new Board members, not against them.
To #21: So what you are saying is that if the special needs children were enrolles in the PS there would be no need to pay for an additional 50 kids because there would already be 50 kids there from PS. So why are we asked to pay for 50 kids so that the special needs kids are mainstreamed?
It’s 4:45 already! What’s the end of this crazy story?!
is tt staying open or not????
It is past 6:00. What’s the final decision??
this is beginning to sound like a clown show. does the new board understand the legalities and the needs involved in special education? is the goal of lowering taxes blinding them from their serious responsibility to all children in lakewood? they accepted a very serious achrayus – do they realize that?
What is the end of the story will tiny tots get it after all?
so what is going on did tt get it or not can someone let us know what is going on .
NU
think stars
Last I heard, as of 4:30 they got a congratulatory email from the BOE saying that they’re staying open but at 9:00 tonight something changed dramatically & it doesn’t look so good anymore.
Who owns tiny tots?
To #27
Maybe it’s you who doesn’t know everything going on here. Most of the children attending TT are REGULAR children who may need some therapy and are pulled out of class for this. These children get free childcare as a result. Who are you to say that this should continue to be funded by local taxpayer money when there are millions available from the state?? I’m not saying either way but I think they know a little more than us and as such are sickened by the enrichment of some at the expense of others who are SUFFERING financially.
A twisted thread.
I have an easier time understanding the cheshbon in masechte Yevomos than in the tiny tots saga.
