With Thanksgiving being celebrated on Thursday, the Lakewood Board of Education is handing out expressions of their gratitude to some of the people who make Lakewood great.
Pumpkin pies and other delicacies have been made available to all of Lakewood’s public school teachers and staff, as well as anyone serving on Lakewood’s police force, EMS, or fire department, besidesĀ for the over 100,000 meals that will be served to Lakewood children today.
The BOE began giving out the aforementioned delicacies to Lakewood’s school bus drivers at 5:30 AM this morning. The same will be done the community’s helpers, including Fire, EMS, and police personnel until 3:00 PM at the BOE. Additionally, public school staff will be able to receive their own tokens of appreciation at school buildings throughout the day.
Speaking to TLS, Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer said, “Lakewood’s schools are doing are doing a terrific job providing an education to our children, especially in this difficult time. Our police officers are proud to be a part of this community-wide effort, and we are thankful for the tokens of appreciation given to our officers. The in-person instruction now being provided also helps keeps kids engaged and off the streets, which is a win for us all. I’d like to thank the Board of Ed, Superintendent Winters, and [BOE attorney] Michael Inzelbuch for their devotion to the education and wellbeing of Lakewood’s students.”
