BOE Approves Preliminary District Budget With 5.2% Increase

The Board Of Education last night approved a preliminary budget with an increase of 5.2%, a board official confirmed to TLS. “This means that for the average home worth $500,000, it would be an increase of $318.00”, the official said.

The budget however, is only a preliminary budget submitted to the County. The budget will be finalized on March 22nd.

Being that the preliminary budget was increased by over 2%, it would be required to be reviewed by the Township and State. The public will not be able to vote on the budget, despite it being above the 2% cap because the costs above the 2% are part of an exception.

Voting to approve the budget, were Grunhut, Greenspan, Miccio, Friedman and Tift, and voting down the budget increase, were Silver, Seitler and Fink. Zlatkin left prior to the vote. TLS.

  1. this budget was hidden from the board and public for months. The only reason why it was reviewed last night it has to be into Ocean county no later then Monday.
Once again no transparancy. It’s time for change-

  2. 5.2% school tax increase? Because the costs above the 2% are part of an exception and will not be up for a vote of the people?. Did anyone in town get a 5.2% raise in their salary this year? Bye Bye Lakewood. Anyone want to buy my house?

  3. “The public will not be able to vote on the budget”

There go all the excuses why it’s not better to have moved the BOE elections.

And they knew this all when they originally kept the elections in April. What a sneaky bunch.

  4. “I thought these board members promised no tax increase?” Think harder!!! And this time really use your head. Try to remember which members promised and delivered no tax increase… I’ll help you out here.. Fink, Zeitler, Silver..Do these names sound familiar? Now, look carefully as to which board members voted for the increase this year and which members voted against it. Thank you!! I rest my case.

  5. Electricity up!
    Water up!
    Supplies up!
    Food services up!
    Busing up!
Teacher contract-when it’s ever settled, up!
    The price of everything UP!
Surplus to cushion the tax rate GONE!
Where do you think this extra money is going to come from?
I KNOW! let’s cut out or change some courtesy busing!
(excuse me, I’m having a laughing attack!)

  6. To #12 Trippy. These were not the same members. For the record, Carl Fink, Yoni Silver and Chesky Seitler voted NO to the current budget. These were the guys who said no increase last year and delivered with an $8Mil cut…. yes a CUT!!!

Come election time we should all remember who said yes to this budget.

  7. quote “Please go to http://www.lakewoodunite.org and read all 17 questions posed by Pastor Glenn Wilson to the Lakewood BOE. Then ask yourself why that Board did not answer even a single question. A very conflicted Board.”

Some great questions with no answers Its all about the money and the kids come second, third ,etc ,etc ,etc,

  8. lets be clear and open, who voted FOR this rediculous budget and who voted AGAINST it. Lets get the BOE members names out for the public to see

  9. we need to carefully vet the candidates in the upcoming election to see if they are aligned with fink and seitler who are pro lowering the tax burden or friedman and Greenspan who are pro higher taxes

  10. Actually everything in the budget is DOWN! The only thing that went up in this budget is the union retroactive raises. That is the entire 5.2% increase. Sorry to burst your bubble.

  11. Even if its onl) $300 a year. But over 5 years its $1500. 10 years $3000. This is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!there are more houses going up everyday!!!!!!!

  12. $3.2M for a roof? You can build a 30,000 sf building for less than that. Who is not watching the store???
TLS, please get and post all the bids received, along with proof of the advertisement. It’s public record.
