Tonight’s BOE meeting was as tense as one could imagine. With four members actively seeking to replace the Superintendent Ms. Lidya Silva and four others supporting her (one member has not been available for any votes on the matter), the meetings have turned into a tug of war.
At the meeting, four of whom are opposed to Ms. Silva voted against the bulk of the agenda and only reversed on a few items when it became apparent that all bills would not be able to be paid.
At issue was whether a statement by Ms. Silva as to the statement of accounts can be relied upon. After approving an interim BA, for the 4th time this year, and her reviewing the report on the spot, was it approved. The rest of the agenda – as well as 5 personnel addendum – were not approved by a 4-3 margin.
“The voting process was drawn out and at many times very tense, however the 4 members are determined to hold strong until change comes to Lakewood”, says a Baord member.
At the end of the meeting, Board President Meir Grunhut announced the members who will serve on the Superintendent Search Committee.
They 4 members, who are most supportive of the Superintendent and the way the District is currently being run, are Ms. Irene Miccio, Mr. Meir Grunhut, Mr. Yisroel Freidman, and Mr. Zecharia Greenspan.
They will be reporting to the board and the public on a monthly basis to update them on their progress. TLS-GK.
What a joke this committee is. Which one of these members has any children in the public schools? I would venture to guess NONE
Lakewood Scoop, you always write balanced & objective reports of BOE dealings. LAC (moderated) get the message from last election
why don’t we, the taxpayers demand a forensic audit on the huge budget that these (moderated) are responsible for???
Dr. Debra Mercora, was an is more qualified then the Superintendent we have now, that’s why Silva pushed her out
Ms. Irene Miccio, Mr. Meir Grunhut, Mr. Yisroel Freidman, and Mr. Zecharia Greenspan.
What a joke
I sit in attendence of every board meeting and to be very honest I am more confused everymonth how the chairmen runs the meetings. What in the world was he thinking last night.
to #1:
if you think the law should be that only those with children in the public school system should be allowed on the board then work towards enacting that as law.
then others can work towards enacting a law that only those with children in the public school system should have to pay property taxes to support the public school system.
that sounds fair to me.
The Board Members represent tht taxpayers of Lakewood, who are funding the School district
some real nonsense posted here , just look at the end results that does not paint a real pretty picture how the Public lakewood schools perform the proof is in the end results nad that is less than 40% graduation rate
some real nonsense posted here , just look at the end results that does not paint a real pretty picture how the Public lakewood schools perform the proof is in the end results nad that is less than 40% graduation rate
so where is this post???
#8, are you seriously saying that there are no parents of the public schools students that are taxpayers. I have no children in the district and I pay my share of taxes and have for many years. If there are three members from the Community that have no children in the public schools, how can they fairly evaluate a potential candidate for the district as a whole. It seems very slanted to me and not in a fair way.
Dear Lakewoodtaxpayer,
Tracy Tift has children in the public school system
No one wants to see a high school student drop out of school. Unfortunately, the parents and the child are the ones who control that decision. No school district wants to see a child walk away from an education. Who interviewed/hired the past individuals in the BA position? This person is obviously not qualified to make that decision since the past results have not been successful.
The board needs to have all types of people running it. All views and ideas would be great. For all children, they need help not comments.
Everyone pays one way or another, it should be fair for all. They are losing all the wonderful teachers to other districts because they won’t settle their contracts. Fair for all is the right way, or all gets hurt.
No charter schools please……
@#12, I am talking about the committee to search for a new superintendent. There doesn’t seem to be anyone on that comm. that has children in the public schools.
I know Mr. Tift has children that go to public school in Lkwd. but he not on that committee.
the chairmen put board members who do not sit on any other committee on the most important committee of the year. We all know what this means.
