Blue Claws Replaces Field Lights

blue claws construction picPHOTOS: Blue Claws fans are looking forward to a brighter future with new lights this season. The Stadium is currently in the midst of installing brand new light structures for the playing field after the previous ones were deemed unsafe after 10 years of use. “One of the poles had about a 180 degree crack around it”, says Tony Arrechi, Superintendent of Lakewood Public Works who is overseeing the project”.

The lighs, which are more energy efficient, is costing approximately $1.2 million, and is being sponsored by UEZ funds.

A Blue Claws official tells TLS, the construction – which began in January – is expected to be completed for the new season, which begins in the beginning of April. TLS.

  1. I knew it! That’s why they played so poorly last season. I’m sure with the new lights the team will have a much better year. How can anyone play well when they are in constant fear of a lightpole falling on their head. You know if it was my house and one light I would fix that one for a few thousand and not spend 1.2 mil to replace all of them. But that is one of my big faults in life that I tend to be a little cheap. And have a hard time spending money when its not so necessary. But give credit to the people running the stadium for doing what’s best for the team and spending their hard earned money for the safety and security of the team and the entire town. I myself drive past there quite often and have been nervous for quite some time about those falling lightpoles. I just hope they use the same contractor because I don’t think most stadiums get 10 years out of their lightpoles. I mean 10 years is a awfully long time to have lightpoles.

  2. Didn’t bob singer just spend over 100k from our tax dollars to change the lights in this stadium????!!!?????!!!!!! First we spend a ton of money building the stadium (which as many polls show is not even used by Lakewood residents. And the fans don’t even go support the downtown or cedar bridge Lakewood businesses.) . Then we charge almost no rent and pay all expenses out of our own pockets. then we go do unneccesary repairs out of our pockets. And we still have to pay to go watch a game!!! Aren’t we paying enough??!!!!!!???!!?!?!! STOP THIS WASTE OF MONEY NOW!!!!!!!

  3. wow the one good thing in Lakewood and so many complaints , I can think of lots of other things lakewood should not waste their money on

  4. y cant they pay for the light themself is $25,000 to much rent, on a stadium that brings in millions and cost the twsp more then $21 million to build.

  5. #7 don’t you think people do not go into the(mostly orthodox) downtown businesses because they know how they will be treated going in there? I know for me whenever I used to go to some places, which I will not name, I was stared at and could plainly see people talking to each other under there breath about me and some even went as far as to point. Maybe if people were a little more accepting of other people they would be more willing to go into some stores to see their products. Oh and by the way the Blueclaws have been playing very well the last couple of years and I do enjoy going to many games a year.

  6. to # 13-14 I fully agree. with you. Oh, and by the way I’m Jewish and have lived in lakewood for many years and have recently moved westward out of this state to a large city where people respect each other regardless of religion, race, color etc. I can unfortunatly attest to what you have stated, and feel that this mindset has crept it’s way into the crowd, and it is very negative in all ways. I don’t care if you wear anything on your head, you still deserve respect; a Good morning, Good evening go a very long way, and which everyone deserves.
