PHOTO: [UPDATED] A fire which officials initially said started from a Biur Chometz candle caused extensive damage to a home this evening. The call for the Louisberg Square fire came in at about 10PM when a malfunctioning fan set a bathroom on fireand quickly filled the ehome with smoke.
A General Alarm was hit out and drew a large response from the Fire Department.
The home’s occupants made it out safely and the fire was extinguished in under 15 minutes.
The Fire Marshal’s office is investigating. TLS-07/TLS-50/TLS-60/TLS-FM/Photo: NS.
The fire department blew it way out of proportion from the amount of responders you could have thought there was a bomb or something of that magnitude! The fire was out in 5 minutes it was a waste of money and resources to respond that way!!!
Don’t complain better safe than sorry.
do you need to do bdika in the bathroom?
to #1
Im glad you feel that way…Next time I wont waste my gas or risk my life…I guess that means you wont need us tomorrow to extinguish the dumpsters during your holiday….
Dear Anon,
and what training do you have to make such a statement that a response was overkill and a waste of money- IYO? Remember one thing you prepare for the worst and hope for the best outcome. Large condo- multi floor complex with a report of a working fire in one room. How many women and children live in this building? what exposure could be in danger?
Put your stop watch away, and be glad you dont have a full paid fire dept other wise you wouldnt have time to complain because you would be working a second job to pay for your taxes. have a good holiday and worry about things that you have control over.
thank you LFD and all responders!!!! Im sure the family really appreciates your quick and effective response.
to number 1all the houses there are a railroad if gd forbid they didn’t show up with such a response c”v….. And they u would say they have so much what r they doing with it b”h it was for nothing
I hope everyone is ok. To #3 ever heard the story where on pesach chol hamoed a parent wanted to turn on the air conditioner because it was hot and guess what flew out, you got it pieaces of bread that their young kids had stuffed in their during the year. So I am not poskining about the bathroom but there is nothing wrong with checking. Chag Kosher V’Sameach.

Lakewood firefighter…..no need to respond to #1. Mr Anonymus is obviously not playing with a full deck of cards!!!!
to # 4 you said it right and G-D BLESS YOU FOR THE WORK YOU DO
#1:A general alarm was put out and all these selfless VOLUNTEERS responded. The words you should be saying are “thank you”.
I have yet to see a comment asking after the occupants how they are and if they are in need of a place for Yom Tov. My heart goes out to this family. Wishing them well in what must be a difficult time for them.
Hi to all those that think this was an over reaction!
Let me just tell ya that in such a development, living in such close proximity if there wouldn’t be full response it would soon require FULL response!! So think b4 u speak!
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you to LFD!! Paid and Vollie!! Some people just don’t get it (#1’s brain is prob fried from getting to close to tonight’s blaze)- but MOST do!! Thank you for the tremendous response tonight- and for all your hard work and dedication! Stay safe!
To # 1: It sounds like you live in that complex…and your Grumpy…that you Couldn’t park your Car in your Legendary spot!!!
#1:Oh stop complaining…I’m suprised that you finished Bdikas Chometz that fast….Instead of being Blown away by Firetrucks…Blow us away with Pesach recipes!!! Rather Blow us away with a Good shtikl torah!!!..Waitin to hear one….
And a BIG THANK YOU to the members of the fire dept for relieving the worried mom about allher jewlery left inside! I was there when they were bringing out as much as they were finding lying around with great sensitivity & professionalism & handing straight over to the owner, since she was not allowed yet to enter!!!
Thank you LFD – keep up the great work !!

THANK YOU!!!! LFD! LPD! LFA! OEM! And all Chaplains and resources that came to help you people are great. To give up your time and money to help people is truly amazing. And you guys should be proud!! Have a good holiday and stay safe!!
wow! #1 i can’t believe the comments you and some others post. they are gifts that keep giving.
Hey #1, If you are so smart and able to plan a response to an emergency why don’t YOU get a job as dispatcher and then YOU can decide what and where to send equipment … let us know when you get the job so we can move out of Lakewood.
okay what started the fire.. They said a candle then said it was the fan..
A simple thank you would suffice.. no need to make comments like that…Oh and you are welcome..

to #4still how many trucks do u need 4 not 12:
You get what we come with ..there is no such thing as a limited response, they hit out a General Alarm you get the entire dept..no matter if its 4 trucks or 14 trucks..everyone comes unless Our CHIEFS tell us to stay in quarters. I know its hard to understand but in time you will..Enjoy your holiday..We will be here for you when you call..Volunteers don’t get holidays..we are 24/7
The only PAID people out there where the 2 on-duty firemen. Everyone else is a Volunteer, meaning the basically donate their time to put their live’s on the line for you. Also, please tell me what fire academy you attended that makes you such an aficionado on fire suppression? What if it had spread to the adjoining town homes? That’s right, you never thought of it like that.
Thank you to the Lakewood Fire Department and all the volunteers, who continue to come out and protect us.
I was there at the fire last night, just another of the many Orthodox watching the fire, and was feeling very appreciative watching you guys in action. When you glanced at me, you probably thought to yourself “there’s another one of those ungrateful people”. But in reality I was feeling very grateful and appreciative, and if I wasn’t so shy I would have gone over and told you so.
I believe I speak for many of my co-religionists when I tell you how much we thank you and appreciate what you do for us.
So the next time you see one of us just standing there watching you guys, you should know that in our hearts we understand the sacrifices you make, the sacrifices your families make, we appreciate you, and WE THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS.
#29, your post brought tears to my eyes
A little study of Fire Science will educate you that fires grow and double in size exponentially. Let’s not second-guess our professional fire department…they are volunteers, but they are the best of the best and serve this community in the highest traditions of the fire service. Their response was not wasteful…it was cautious. If the blaze was not knocked down so swiftly, the rest of the resources and utilities would have been necessary immediately. They did a great job of prevention of further damage and the possibility of a complete loss of the property. If this was YOUR property, you’d expect that response and wouldn’t settle for less. And with structure fires, there is always the possibility of kids and family members entrapped…they’d risk their very lives for us…let’s show them our appreciation and not criticize everything so quickly. You think about that!
It is so sad that a vote of a few hundred has tainted the view of the fire department of the Jewish community. When will they realize that they can’t paint a whole community by the actions and words of so few? I have such respect for the LFD and all their chiefs, volunteers, chaplains etc. They are selfless dedicated people. The election that happenned went unnoticed by the overwhelming majority of Lakewood yet the LFD members seem to think that the opinion of the community is that we have something against them. There are tens and thousands of us and we thank you and applaud you. How could we not and why should we not? Because of a few dollars in a budget? We know nothing about the DPW or the BOE or anything else. Budgets are fodder for the Press. We the people need to be safe and ensure that our children are safe you guys make that happen.
