President-elect Donald Trump has once again won the overwhelming majority of presidential votes cast in Lakewood, winning 87% of the vote – a five-point increase over his 2020 totals.
In Lakewood, which so far saw turnout of about 62%, Trump, who will be just the second former president to win another term in the White House, received 34,173 votes of the 39,103 total votes according to unofficial results from the Ocean County Clerk’s office.
In the 2020 race, Trump received 82% of the vote in Lakewood, which in turn was an increase from the 73% he received here in 2016.
But while Trump’s strong support in Lakewood is no surprise, what was a surprise was the margin by which Trump lost the normally reliable blue state of New Jersey.
As of this afternoon, with 93% of the total vote counted, Trump is trailing Vice President Harris by just five points in New Jersey – a state he lost by 16 points to Joe Biden in 2020.
In a media interview earlier this year, Trump said he will make a “heavy play for New Jersey,” adding that he is “going to do rallies … going to do speeches,” while adding separately, that he think the state can be flipped.
“Very importantly, New Jersey. I think New Jersey can be flipped,” he said in May.
This past summer, Trump held a well-attended rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, with tens of thousands of people in attendance.
“..Trump, who will be just the second former president to win a second NON CONSECUTIVE term in the white house..”
Please correct the facts
For a former president to win a second term it has to be non consecutive, otherwise he wouldn’t be a former president, so line is correct.
The line is correct.
All US presidents that won a second term did so as then current, not “FORMER”, presidents at the time of their reelection – with the exception of Grover Cleveland (the last good Democrat) in 1892.
It says A Former President not a Current
New Jersey could possibly have been flipped had there been some rallying. Next time don’t pay attention to “polls” that show misleading results like Harris up by 16 points… Polls are intended to mislead.
That’s why campaigns do their own internal polling.
Trump’s numbers over Harris would be even higher if we had rank-based voting.
Harris only got 51.5% in NJ.
There were tens of thousands of votes for RFK Jr (who endorsed Trump), the Libertarian Party, and the Constitution Party. (And even a few “Write In Ron Paul” nuts like myself.)
If ranking candidates, those voters would rank Trump over Kamala. After their first choices are eliminated (Instant Run-Off Voting), their votes would benefit Trump over Harris.
