A Lakewood resident is urging others to be vigilant when parking at or near airports, after his vehicle was allegedly used without his permission, and ticketed.
The resident says he parked his vehicle at the New Jersey parking lot near the airport, and then received ticket for an incident miles away.
“I parked there overnight for one day, and received a parking ticket in the mail from Jersey City, New Jersey, which is 17 miles away…seems one of their employees “borrowed” the car overnight and managed to get a parking ticket for me,” the man tells TLS.
The victim wrote to the company in hopes of being compensated, and getting the employee fired.
“I’m expecting your company, at the minimum, to overnight me payment of $65 to reimburse me for the amount I’m obligated to pay, and what steps are being taken by your company to fire the employee who stole and used my car,” he wrote.
But despite providing proof, including his itinerary, receipts, boarding passes and more, the company denies it, the victim said.
“They are denying it, and not acknowledging it though they were supplied all the info and proof that I was parked in their lot at the time the ticket was issued,” he said.
The victim intends to take further action, but wants residents to be vigilant, including taking a photo of their odometer when they park, so they’ll know if their vehicle was used.
Which parking place?
He should report this to the Jersey City police dept.
I have heard such stories before and only park in Self Park lots. Park your car lock it and take the keys with you. Maybe not as geshmak as valet especially in Winter when you come back to a warm car but definitely best solution to this problem.
Would be helpful if we had the name of the parking company
Would you be so kind as to share which facility this was?
Police. Grand Larceny Auto. Good luck with fingerprints. Don’t expect a complete forensics. If your car has On-Star, or something like it, that would help nail the thief.
why would TLS post this story without the name of the lot? ridiculous
Forgot to ask, who was in possession and had custody of the keys at the time. The parking lot? Cameras?
Chances are that the parking lot in Jersey City has security cameras and they can see who came out if the car or who drove the car into the lot. It was probably the manager who “borrowed” the car and subsequently it was the manager that he was speaking to on the phone and that it why he denied it.
Name of the place please?
Spread the name and then lets all call the place. Ill bet that will get u a good “deal”
Call up nj105 radio with the details. They will give them a “nice advertisement”
Ezpass? Maybe the pd wrote the wrong plate number on the ticket and sent it, happened to me, reg did not match the summons
It’s also possible the ticket was given erroneously by the police who may have mis-typed the license plate number. This has happened before so it may not be that the car itself was used but rather a police error. You’d do better to deny the ticket by showing proof of your not being in transit in the vehicle during the time of ticketing.
I agree with Jay. Stealing the cars and who knows what eles is probally the managers privilege, and you were probably talking to him himself. Good luck. Some press publicity, Tls and others would probally help your cause and hopefully some lawyer / investigater will pick up on this and take this on pro bono.
You’ll be surprised how often this happens by employees of Lakewood mechanic shops. I’m a victim. Police do not care.
Have heard of this before- I always take a picture of the odometer reading when I park and would be proof of the car having been ” borowed “
Jersey City is notorious for issuing parking tickets to people that were not there at all. They must just pick a plate number and send a ticket.
They issued tickets for cars parked there on Shabbos and yom tov. The car was actually in Lakewood.
I actually got a parking ticket in the mail that said I parked illegally in Jersey City..turns out they wrote the wrong plate number…the parking place may be telling the truth
It was probably a mistake and the meter maid entered the wrong plate number
Check if the address where they parked your car in jersey city has video cameras via google maps and get the tapes
