Two Lakewood Bachurim who took a taxi ride in Lakewood were offered drugs while in the car, TLS has exclusively learned.
The Bachurim, approximately 15 years old, took a taxi from their Yeshiva, and during the ride, the taxi driver allegedly offered them cigarettes for $30, and marijuana for $40.
“We thought he was joking,” one of the Bachurim told TLS via his parents. “Then he showed us a bag of marijuana and how to smoke it.”
The Bachurim refused the drugs and notified their parents about the incident.

Was it a Frum Taxi service? This is important to know as many of us use car services or send our kids in car services more often than in the past as the borders of Lakewood keep on expanding.
This didn’t happen in a (moderated), and would never happen, I would assume they took a (moderated) car service.
I would only call a (moderated) car service, even it’s some times a dollar more

Never ever send your children with a stranger, frum or not, in a taxi service alone. Only ride in pairs. This goes especially for adult women and girls. And don’t say anything on the ride that the driver will know that where you’re going is home. They can notate your address and come to you later when they are not working. A woman I know was stalked for months by a taxi driver. Be safe!
The taxi driver allegedly offered them cigarettes for $30, and marijuana for $40.
The taxi company later issued an apology in a statement, saying as follows:
“Our sincerest apologies for the unfortunate and sad incident that occurred yesterday. Clearly the driver was trying to overcharge the bachurim for the cigarettes and marijuana.. I mean, come on! $30 for a pack of cigarettes is highway robbery by any standards!”
The statement continued: “Hence, we are notifying all our valued customers today that the aforementioned driver has been temporarily suspended from his job for 2 weeks, and will be banned from driving a cab and from selling our cigarettes and marijuana products during that time.”
“In truth,” the statement said, “we’re actually running a special promotion this week – $5 a pack of cigarettes, and $15 dollars for a bag of marijuana, if you order a cab with us. But unfortunately, not only, did this driver not offer the bachurim our promotional rate, he brazenly tried to overcharge them for the goods!”
“Once again, we sincerely apologize for this egregious and crooked behavior,” the company statement added. “And we would like to make amends by offering all our valued customers a free pack of cigs and a free bag of marijuana from now until the end of the month, when you order a cab with us. It’s the least we can do to win back your trust..”
“Many thanks to all of our customers, and we hope to remain your one and only, one-stop destination for taxi rides and smokes..

I think it was made legal in NJ. Still, yeshivos made a proclamation (posted here previously) that no one can have anything to do with it. So, this post is simply food for though.
Moreover, I hate to say anything sharp, but the wild stampede of proven-cancer-causing junk food (which causes at least half of all cancer, in addition to not sleeping properly — for full time needed — no alarm clock and in very dark room), not getting sunlight — very healthy for physical — and emotional too (just drink a few cups per hour in heat), not exercising — except finger exercise on warm, radiating device, is also a big problem, but if you speak to people, they tell you there is always medicine and surgery. (IOW they don’t really believe you, and feel that the concern is more then settled.) Big Pharma has a done a super job of propaganda over the years — beginning with the Rockefeller [Crumbling] Foundation, yemach shemo. “Illegal” and “legal” drugs are just a different forms of addiction. Sorry. It’s the [Junk-]Food-and-Drug-Addiction-Administration, and the Center for Deception and Corruption, a.k.a. Center for Disease Continuation. (Repeat customers; keep then in the loop).
There are those who are against smartphones like drugs, but had the driver showed the bochurim the video of the CH”CH when it came out, would it have made tumult like this?! To some people, certain things are everyday things. The driver is probably surprised that a fuss is being made about this, as are others. But that is why it is posted – as food for thought. Let people discuss it. For many matters, that is the only way to get the message across. (Of course one needs seichel to know what to make a fuss about…)

Taxis are dangerous? right! as if they don’t offer you on every street corner…. If your child can’t resist an offer, you have a bigger problems to deal with….. Btw this is becoming the norm in NYC just walking down the streets you’ll have people approaching you offering you.
The world around us will not conform to our standards and expectations it’s high time we start realizing that we need to prepare ourselves to resist the outside world and not expect the whole world to see our point of view….

I have taken all taxis in Lakewood. I’m above teen, but I have found them all very respectable – both the Jewish and gentile. This story is an anomaly, regardless of which one it was.
First of all these are kids!!!!!! Under no circumstances no one should give a kids packs of cigarettes or marijuana! I would have this person arrested for doing that
I agree no one should offer to them, but still, if so, how do you ever have “kids” (under 19 — legal age to buy cigs.) with them?! So someone gave it to them. (n BTW, above teenage is not healthy either, but during teen years when brain an lungs developing, extra problem. Also, studies who that virtually all smokers began during teenage years, so if can hold out at that time, will most likely not start.)
Now, why when it’s a taxi driver are we talking about trust and already holding by words such as ‘arrest’. If the teens know it is wrong, then they should politely decline – as they did. Moreover, teens are not usually carrying tens of dollars, although sometimes yes, but I think most often not.
And BTW, e-cigs are not better than tobacco cigs – and many are worse (not only the ones with diluted vitamin E. IOW, those were the ones people had severe lung injuries from, as Vit E is very healthy to eat and smear on skin, but to breath, it coats lungs, and oxygen cannot go into blood stream – very dangerous. But all e-cigs have microscopic bits of metal; and the addictive chemical is poison — flat out, and there is very little gov. regulation in general. Marlboro vowed to downsize company after heavy lawsuits, but then invested heavily in the major seller of e-cigs.) Low-lifes who are after money at anyone’s expense. You have to be a little on the ball to realize what is going on. Get involved. This taxi hock should be awake-up call to realize what is really going. Roshei yeshiva are very against e-cigs too.
Good point. It’s good they resisted. Still, the driver should be told it’s not the norm here.
Now, bear in mind, sometimes, when such things take place, they’re testing the waters; there are much more powerful forces out there; there is a lot of money involved with may different things, so there is a lot of interest. If you don’t want something (like proven-cancer-causing junk food), then don’t buy it!!! It’s that simple! You vote with your dollar!!!
How can one complain to the manufacturer/distributor/storeowner/caterer etc. that they are selling this stuff, when they’ll say ‘how can the buyer spend his hard-earned money on this?!’ Once, again, one votes with one’s dollar, and in most cases, it’s the most powerful — and sometimes only — way to really make a statement. And it really does work. Stores have room only for what sells, and caterers etc. know what people want; what food ‘goes’.
p.s. A guy got arrested for carrying bag of weed in NJ. He was charged with possession of an illegal shopping bag!:)
How come Lakewood residents are so surprised? You’d think no one the history of Lakewood ever smoked. No one in Lakewood does drugs. Get out fron under your rocks, take your ostrich face out of the sand and realize what is going in and around Lakewood. It’s Not Reb Aaron Zatzal’s Lakewood anymore.
You’re right this is not the first to smoke, but it is R’ Aaron’s place, and I think he would be very proud of what there is.
But I tell you that were he here today, he would protest soda being standard at every simcha!!! We know much more about health today; the fraud and deception of Big Junk Food and Big Pharma (in that order specifically – and they have the same investors – and the same marketing companies to keep the lies under the rug). THEY are the ones living under a rock. Those who are into heath and being – the true happiness ta comes from kindness etc. are able to overcome additions. BJF BPH are the ones who want everyone under a rock and addicted to their HUGE money making products and services!!!
If I had kids I would give them a ride in my own vehicle and not with anyone else because I don’t trust anyone
