Last year, 583 people died in auto accidents in New Jersey — the lowest total in more than 20 years. If current trends hold, the death toll could be substantially lower in 2010. Through June 25, there were 243 auto fatalities, compared to 270 during the same period in 2009, according to State Police Uniform Crime Report statistics. Unfortunately, Ocean and Monmouth counties continue to lead the state in auto deaths. Ocean County, which last year had 63 traffic fatalities — far and away the most in New Jersey — again is leading the state with 25 auto deaths so far this year. Monmouth County is tied with Camden County for second, with 21 fatalities. It had 34 all of last year. Read full article in APP.
