Authorities Investigating Young Boy Assaulted in Lakewood Park

Police are investigating after a Jewish boy was allegedly assaulted at a park in Lakewood on Thursday afternoon.

According to a witness who spoke to TLS, a group of young Jewish boys were playing baseball at the park located at New Hampshire Avenue and Locust Street when they were approached by a group of  boys who asked to join in the game, to which the boys already playing happily agreed to.

At that point, apparently without warning, an African American kid – one of the boys who asked to be part of the baseball game – approached two Jewish boys and demanded that they call him the “N-word,” in an apparent attempt to instigate a fight. When they refused, the boy turned to one of the Jewish kids and struck him on the face, bruising his cheek.

The victim, shaken up, ran to a nearby parent for help and was followed by the assaulter, who proceeded to threaten the parent.

“This is our park! Don’t come here!” the attacker reportedly told the Jewish boy.

LCSW/Shomrim and police were called, with a report filed against the attacker, although police are unlikely to be able to do much being that the attacker is a minor.

  1. “Unlikely to do much being that the attacker is a minor.” Oh really, is that how it works, minors can commit assault without consequences?? I’ll tell you what, next time bring some bigger minors and teach that kid a lesson.

  2. Every public park in NYC had a “Parky”. A Dep’t of Parks Officer in Uniform. If anything like this happened that kid would be held until his parents picked him up. One time “Big Mike” Micciota was taunting Eddie Kurtz. (Mike didn’t know Eddie was training in boxing). The Parky stopped it before it started and set up a later time for a one-on-one boxing match. The Parky refereed the fight and Eddie TKO’d “Big Mike” in round 2. We also had a Youth Squad in every precinct that handled anyone under 16 and held them until their parents picked them up or took them home to their parents. Sad to say that this kid likely didn’t have a reachable parent and if a Parky or a cop held him he’d probably be charged with kidnapping.

  3. So minors can do anything with no consequences? Now they can assault children and not even get a slap on the wrist. They can at least give him community service or something. This is how crime starts in a community. When these fatherless hoodlooms become fearless because they know that they can get away with almost anything because they are minors and the right color and the police are too scared of them to do anything.

  4. My wife was with my kids at that same park last week. A crazy lady was there threatening and cursing my wife (along with other frum women & men) that they should all leave or she would kill all of them.
When I asked my wife why she didn’t call the police, she said she didn’t want to make it a bigger issue and she was afraid that the crazy lady would then follow her home.
My wife and just ended up leaving and going to a different park. Not the way I probably would have handled it, but she was really frightened.
