August is National Immunization Awareness Month which serves as a reminder to parents to make sure their children’s immunizations are up-to-date before students return to child care, preschool and school.
“Because of the success of vaccines in preventing disease in the United States, parents are often unaware their children are still at risk for many serious and life-threatening diseases,” said New Jersey Department of Health Commissioner Mary E. O’Dowd. “Parents should check with their physicians and other health care providers to see what vaccines their children need.”
Vaccine-preventable diseases such as varicella (chickenpox), measles, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), and diphtheria can result in hospitalizations and even premature death.
Recently, New Jersey and the nation have seen increases in the vaccine-preventable disease pertussis (whooping cough). By ensuring that both children and adults are immunized, we can greatly limit the spread of this illness that can be fatal in young children if not properly treated.
The goal of National Immunization Awareness Month is to increase awareness about the need for immunizations for infants, school-age children, college-bound students, adults and elderly.
“Immunizations are not just for infants, adults need vaccinations to stay healthy, too,” said Deputy Commissioner Dr. Arturo Brito.
College students living in dormitories need meningococcal vaccine, and young adults should get HPV vaccine if they haven’t already been immunized. Older adults may need tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, shingles, or pneumococcal vaccine. Adults need other immunizations too, depending on age, vaccination history, medical conditions, high-risk exposures, or type and location of travel. Check with your health care provider on what vaccinations you may need based on your individual situation.
All of the vaccines required for child care, preschool, school and college in New Jersey are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
More information about immunization requirements is available through the Department’s website at www.state.nj.us/health/cd/imm.shtml. Information about vaccines and recommended schedules is available through the CDC website www.cdc.gov/vaccines. TLS.

This seems like a new ploy to counter those that use April which is autism awareness month – as a time to bash immunization.
There is really no reason to have an immunization month as doctors stuff it down your throat wether you like it or not. the only ones that dont get it are illegals so i guess either its for them ? or this must be a ploy to use against the anti – immunization group.
because this is likely to become a discussion about this issue which tend to get very heated.
i would just like to state that i have an autistic child and i have immunized the rest of my children.
i do however believe , based on the extensive knowledge i have and not based on yenta talk ( but i wont bore anyone with 10 pages of details) – that there are very strong reasons to believe that there are connections between immunizations and the increase in autism and/or the severity of autisitic case
however i do not advise not immunizing based on this. ( again that would take another 10 pages to explain).
i do however advise the parents make themselves very aware about immunizations from unbias sources and research which immunizations are absolutly nessasary and which are being pushed by the drug industry , which have a thermosil and a risk or mercury and which do not. and then with those that have a risk they can make a decision to only give those that are absolutly nessasary.
Also before the anti immuniation camp beats up on me for giving the rest of my children immunizations after having an autistic child- is as follows :
The only 100% concrete proof ever reprented that mercury has an effect on autistic children is the claim that the detox programs work .If that is the case , and lets say it is so, we would you risk the consiquences of not immunizing , when you can just immunize and then worse case scenerio just detox . i have researched this and i have yet to find any article written that proves that a detoxed child ends up worse than one never immunized . if someone has one please provide a link . this site has all you need to know about detoxing. but not a word about it.

I agree 100%. this is just another government strategy trying to convince ‘sheeple’ what’s best for them -since we are too simple-minded to make our own decisions. people have become so dumbed-down that they have come to rely on what the gov. feeds them without hesitation.as a parent I want to have a say in what gets pumped into my childrens’ bloodstream. It is clearly not a coincidence between the rise in autism and the kinds of toxins health care prof. insist are required or recommended particularly 4 newborns. we have become human guinea pigs for the FDA.
Aside from thimeserol (mercury), there are other additives in vaccines that can possibly be harmful (which may never be proved because manufacturers do not study possible long-term side effects). Therefore as “here we go again” says, it is important to research which vaccines are really necessary at certain ages, and which can wait till a child is older (spacing out vaccines so they are not all given at one time), and which are really never necessary.
Ask a good pediatrician if he condones the actions of those who chose not to vaccinate. Remember just a few months ago when pertussis started up again and Dr. Shanik attempted to raise awareness by encouraging playgroup morahs to make certain their customers are vaccinated? How many children need to get sick with preventable diseases before we get serious about this?
what about the babies who where killed by whooping cough recently?
No one is saying not to get ANY vaccines….some of them are very important. But every time a manufacturer comes out with a new vaccine it does not mean that it is necessary for all babies/toddlers to get it. Manufacturers make big money on these vaccines. The list of recommended/required vaccines have doubled since my children were little (my children did get all the required vaccines because there were not so many of them to get). Are today’s children healthier than previous generations because of all the vaccines they are gettng?
As a healthcare professional I get to read all sorts of letters, documents, package inserts. I’ve studied vaccines in depth, this is what I know: Vaccines are the #1 profit making for the industry. The influence of the Industry on the FDA and other government agencies decision making is well known. The basic principle that governs prescribing of a drug is benefit vs. risk analysis. For ex. Seldane was a drug for allergies but it would cause irregular heart beat and was pulled off the market. Applying that principle to the vaccines I made a conclusion that If it was not for the money involved most of them would have been either pulled or limited greatly. As most of them come with a long list of possible dangerous consequences or side effects while with a benefit that is either nonexistant as the disease only exists in theory or its better to suffer self-limiting short term illness then the much more likely chances of long term vaccination injuries. Parents! Your children belong to you dont be misled make your own decision read at least the package inserts see what you will learn
