AUDIO: Scammer from Alleged ‘US Treasury Department’ Threatens Victim with Arrest

scam alertAUDIO: It appears the scammers too are getting tired of the ‘We’re the IRS’ scams, and are now using a different title claiming to be from the ‘US Treasury Department.’

The scammer in this recording of a phone call to a Lakewood resident can be heard asking for the resident’s attorney information, and when he failed to give it, she threatened him with arrest and then hung up the phone. (The voice of the resident was removed upon request.)

The woman, with a heavy accent, called with a caller ID of ‘Los Angeles California’.

  1. A local lakewod resident has devolved a app that just won the Federal Trade Commission award. That will bock and forward such calls to rhe FTC. Robo Killer, I belive it is still in beta testing and will be launched soon.

  2. This has been going on for years. I have gotten dozens of these calls in the past 3 years threatening my arrest if I didn’t pay them. They call from caller ID “911” as well. lol. They pretend to be from local police departments at times.

  3. Can’t listen to the audio because it’s marked private. May those evil people have A meeseh meshina. A

  4. Important note: Make sure your children know NEVER to give any information to anyone who calls, even if they threaten them! They should just hang up the phone. The IRS / US Treasury will not call you for information. They will send it by mail and give you time to respond. They should not even give names, address or phone number information, or even confirm the names/info the caller may be using.
