AUDIO: ‘Microsoft’ Scammer Attempts to Gain Access to Victim’s Computer

micro scam id[AUDIO BELOW] Earlier this month, we reported about a local resident who was nearly victimized by a scammer claiming to be from Microsoft.

In this recording, obtained by TLS, you can hear a similar phone call which was received by a Lakewood resident from a man claiming to be a representative of Microsoft.

The resident tells TLS he was aware of the scam as a result of our previous article, and knew not to give computer access to the fraudster.

After the intended victim refused to immediately follow the scammer’s instructions on the phone,  the scammer hung up. (responses were removed from the clip upon request)

The call came from the number show in the attached photo.

Police, and Microsoft are warning people to be vigilant.

  1. All these scammers are foreigners probably calling from Asia. I’ve gotten calls from scammers not saying they’re from microsoft, but they have similar accents. I tell them they’re scammers and immediately they hang up.

  2. I was called this week from an alledged IRS agent from Washington DC who said they will place a warrant for my arrest unless I pay the $1500 of tax owed. After a lengthy conversation and refusing to do so he said he knows my address (he gave me my home address) and said he will be over in 30 minutes to shoot me and my family. I alerted police while keeping him on the line. The police arrived and spoke to him for ten minutes but cannot do much as these scammers do not live in the US.

  3. I live on the West Coast and they tried to pull this one over me too. When I told them they are a scam, they got very upset (that’s how you know they are fakers) and I just hung up.
