Audio: Mayor Steven Langert Talks About Lakewood’s Budget, On Radio WOBM

langert cliftonAUDIO:Lakewood holds a public hearing tonight on its 2010 budget which calls for a slight decrease in spending, no tax increases and no furlough days. Speaking on WOBM’s Open Forum yesterday evening, Mayor Steven Langert says they were able to pull the 2010 spending plan off by making major belt-tightening decisions last year. Langert says they’ll also be taking up a vote to bond for nearly $7 million dollars to mostly pay off small loans for previous capital improvement projects. (Credit: Radio WOBM)

If you don’t live with the chevra that would make allot of noise if their taxes went up you were assessed at value so that you cant complain. Other areas were assessed way below value. They are the ones whose taxes are going down.

I understand the explanation on why my taxes shot up. What I don’t understand is the spend. If the total basis of property value dropped by over a billion dollars, why didn’t the spend drop as well. In other words what the Mayor is saying is that the expenses for the town need to stay flat while the tax revenue has dropped that is why the tax burden on 7,000 + went up. What he should do is limit spending to the amount of revenue produced by taxes! Not say this is the budget now the tax revenue needs to match it.
