AUDIO: Lakewood resident uses robot to get back at fake IRS rep

scam uncle sam[AUDIO BELOW] Submitted by the victim: Background: The “IRS” called me to let me know that I owed them money. The first (Indian/Pakistani) guy I spoke to gave me a whole ‘shpiel’ how there’s an arrest warrant out on me and that the “local sheriff” would be arresting me if I hung up without “resolving this.” He seemed to be suspicious of my tone and he asked me multiple times – “do you think this is a joke?” I had to convince him that I was terrified and that I wanted to “resolve this.”

I was then transferred to “Rob Dotson” who confirmed with me that I would like to “resolve this”. He then asked me – “are you calling from a cellphone”; and if I had the proper funds (around $6000, I forgot the very precise number that I “owed”).

Then I was transferred to “Mike Wilson” who seemed like he was the closer – he would be walking me through the sending of the money. He told me to “leave your house” and go to Walgreens or Walmart (I confirmed with him that 7-11 is also okay).

I guess Mike also got suspicious and he asked me “Do you have a job”. “Yes?” “Then why are you calling me instead of working?!” (they called me….) I managed to convince him that he called me at home after work hours and I had plenty of time to “resolve this”. I then told him that I was getting in my car and going to 7-11. I put him on mute – he waited for ~1 minute and then hung up.

About 15 minutes later, he called me back apologizing that “we got disconnected”. At that point I called Jolly Rogers – and their bot took over as you can hear in the clip…

(Jolly Rogers – “The Jolly Roger Telephone Company provides automated “bots” to chat with your telemarketers. These are designed to keep unsolicited outbound telemarketers engaged for as long as possible. From your mobile or landline, just “add” your favorite bot and put yourself on mute. The bot will engage the telemarketer and keep them busy.”)

(In the recording he is asking me if I got to 7-11 yet – “Where are you?” Also for some reason my cell number is associated with someone named Gary Smith – and I play along that it’s my name.)

It was obvious that they only prey on the very, very gullible. I had to actually persuade and convince them that I was really believing them. They have “protocol” in place to filter out anyone who is not a slam dunk victim…

(Audio cut after rep begins using vulgar language when he realized what’s going on.)

  1. I just want to let the whole community to know that the IRS never never cols tax payers, if the IRS wants to get in touch with someone they mail you a letter, I heard of some people that actually fall for the scam and send the crooks money, I repeat THE IRS DOES NOT CALL ,

  2. Hey tax consultant: That may not be true for long, Obama wants to change that so the IRS can call and email you. This is just another BAD idea coming out of this President. I only heard it once being proposed, but who knows what’s going to happen.

  3. My friend received one of these calls and he draid them a cup for a while. The caller hung up and my friend decided to call them back. He called numerous times until the guy eventually picked up. The guy picked up and said “why are you calling me back, you know that im a fake?” my friend then got into a whole conversation with him. The guy said he is from India and this is what he does for a living. He said that they use robot calls to numerous people at once and if they get someone on the line they then proceed to speak with them. He said he averages about four people a day that take the bait and on each one he averages about $2000. He said he makes a very nice living
