Listen as a child gets onto the Lakewood Fire Department channel this afternoon and interferes with the radio frequency.
10-4 is a radio communication form of acknowledging the transmission.
The child (or children) interfering with the frequencies this afternoon also interfered with the Hatzolah Channel.
Officials are aware of the incident.
“We rely on the radio system to get critical information out to first responders that may be in life threatening conditions,” Lakewood Fire Chief John Yahr told TLS. “Operations depend on the radio system to be functional when we need it. Having unauthorized users on the system may prevent or delay important communications from getting through.”
He added, “If your children have these radios, please explain to them the dangers of interfering with fire or ems. Help us help you by ensuring children do not interfere with our communications.”

The community as a whole has an issue on a grand level. Our children have no structure after school which leads to boredom, instead of spending thousands on life appearances such as custom homes and expensive clothes cars etc.. invest in your childs after school program such as competitive sport camps, music lessons, archery etc. The children who fall short of exposure to a structured program will ultimately lead a a similar lifestyle and the cycle will continue to their children. Times have changed since the early 2000s… our children require double the amount of stimulation and a positive energy to enrich their development.
As a ground rule children should not be allowed to have radios that can interfere with emergency personal.
That being said, I agree with the above strongly! After school programs are essential for many children, especially families with two working parents. P

That being said, I agree with the above strongly! After school programs are essential for many children, especially families with two working parents. The ability to hold down a “real” job in this town is ridiculous with the limitations our school schedules impose.
As someone who went to Public School, I got out at 1:35PM during my high school years. There was an extreme need for after school activities there. Placing the blame on our Yiddishe kinderlach who are in school for much longer hours is not justified, in my opinion. I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be extra curricular activities offered, but to go as far to say that our children are playing with radios because they don’t have what to do is a bit extreme.
The added expense of after school clubs will just cause parents to have to stay at work longer adding to the vicious cycle.
Kids need toys (& attention), not high frequency radios.
Why people keep buying them is beyond my comprehension.
There should be some technology that can locate the offending radios & then dispatch cops to give the kids a good scare!
My brother & his friends once called the cops as a prank & boy did they get a verbal thrashing from the cops when they traced the call. They never did that again!!
