For all those that are going to write their two cents about how to run schools should do nothing but open up your own schools, it’s very hard days for the administrators NO ONE would like to be in their shoes.
Puzzling how anyone can go on any vacations etc… before making sure their children’s tuition is paid in full !
Correct, and I’ll take it one step further, how can anyone buy meat for weeknights, or even shabbos, when their tuition isn’t up to date?
How can a family shop in a clothing stores that charge obscene amounts of money for children’s clothing (as opposed to Carters, Old Navy or cheap frum stores) when they owe tuition?
How can a family spend hundreds of dollars on meat/ fish boards and alcohol for a siyum or kiddish when they owe tuition?
How can a family lease a new car(s) when their tuition isn’t up to date?
The list can go on and on. At the end of the day, consumerism and gashmius has spiraled out of control and until the community removes the wool from over their eyes nothing will change.
Yes, of course there are families that truly cannot afford tuition, but anyone pretending that many many families cannot adjust their life style and come up with thousands of dollars that can go towards tuition is deluding themselves.
How could they not open for the parents that do pay? I don’t think it’s ok.
This is not hard to understand. No pay from LAST YEAR no work. That simple.
There are plenty of ppl that do pay. Many of these parents work and have jobs that they need to get to. Don’t understand how they have the right not to open. They couldve started putting pressure in July why did they wait till two weeks before school?
Its time the township and BOE step up to the plate we pay the highest taxes yet our money goes to fund kids that there parents walked over the border over last decade (btw most dont pay taxes) , just giving a quarter of what they give for public school kids would help alot (yeh the ones that are glued to there phones from 1 PM cuz y not they need the whole afternoon and evening for more screen time)
I don’t want to sound prejudice but Catholic schools have closed all over the country because tuitions were not affordable. They received vouchers, some technology grants and some grants to support special education students. But the bottom line was tuition was unaffordable. Can Lakewood schools access those programs?
What the? Your comment is difficult to understand. It’s completely lacking punctuation, grammar, and proper spelling. Just saying… If you’re going to attack a group of people based on myths at least do it while coming across as slightly educated.
Adding to my last I believe when 98% of a town sends to private schools for religous purposes every parent should get back atleast half the amount the govt would give for that child in the till 1 pm fraud high in crime low in reading public schools politicians start doing something
Wow! What makes you think that the rest of the state should pay for private school? Taxes are for public schools across the country and not private. People from other parts of this state are already paying for the bussing for Lakewood’s children of private schools. Lakewood gets more money every year, than just about any other town in this state. What more do you want?
Private school tuition (in Lakewood) is cheaper than the state pays per child for public school.
You’re welcome!
But asking for state taxpayers to fund your child’s private schooling is ridiculous no matter the cost.
What?! you make no sense!
My tax dollars should go to fund the school that I send my kids to!
Its not the state paying for private bussing, its the state LITTERALLY taking tax dollars from all private school parents and using it on YOUR education!
Leaving me to not only have to pay taxes, but then get charged my tuition as well.
THAT is what is unfair about this, and you have the audacity to complain that at LEAST we get bussing?! Talk about greedy!
WHO’S GREEDY?! Every single tax payer in this state is paying for your child’s bussing. Lakewood has a huge deficit because of the amount of kids going to private school, therefore, every year your town leaders beg the state for more money and they give it without approval from tax payers. Why should I have to pay for your child’s private bussing? No one except for Lakewood receives millions of dollars for bussing every year. Every other private school provides their own service. Private school is an option you chose and I’M PAYING FOR YOUR BUSSING SO YOUR CHILD CAN GET THEIR EDUCATION. Tax payers paying regardless of what school your child goes to, or even better, you have no children you still pay. This is how it’s been across America forever.
Wow, you don’t really know the facts. Me and all my fellow private school parents in Lakewood are paying for all the public school children to learn in their public school. The money for transportation is for all students in all of NJ to go to school. It comes from my tax dollars as well as everyone else in Lakewood who unfortunately don’t get back their portion of education tax for their own kids. It is not the local township resident’s fault that NJ does not have an honest way to distribute money per student. They do it per public school student in your township not per student in the whole town. So my tax dollar is going to your public school student in a different town. Why don’t you complain to the State of NJ, not to local people paying taxes and not getting their share back for education. If all private school students would enroll their children in public school, the school system would beg us to take them back into private schools, for it is half the price of what they allot for a public school student’s tuition!!! WAKE UP AND SEE THE TRUTH! I AM PAYING FOR YOUR CHILD’S EDUCTATION, WHICH IS APPROXIMATELLY $28,000 and you complain about covering my son’s $800 bus allotment!! WAKE UP and see the fairness in this.
You forgot this is America? you want to send your children to private schools where they cant even do 6×4 after the end and only know their book is not something I am going to pay for.
Funny. I certainly know how it works. Of course you are supporting the public school system. That’s how it works. That’s how it has always worked across America. This country sees private school as an OPTION and not necessary therefore property taxes will never cover private school tuition. You should follow your own advice and complain to the state if you don’t like it. In the meantime, you pay for my children and I pay for your busing. And yes it’s not fair as I should not be paying for your busing. And P.S. it’s nowhere near $28,000 per student.
Of course private tuition is cheaper because bussing is being charged in that tuition. Think.
That is literally a libel. Completely untrue. How very immoral of you.
This comment does not make any sense. Maybe you should’ve gone to private school.
You want to tell me that Lakewood gets more $ than Newark, Elizabeth, Atlantic City, Long Branch, Eaton Town, Paramus, Toms River, Trenton.
None of these cities/towns are demanding bussing for private schools.
Schooling has been deemed a right in these united states. That includes the right to school ones children in a matter consistent with their values. In what dreamland do you understand that somehow Bussing should NOT be paid for by the state?!
The only argument that the state has is that they should not be liable to pay any additional funds for something that is extracurricular. Thats fair.
But other amenities that are applicable across the board? Of COURSE they are beholden to their tax paying constituency to provide.
Just saying btw, the average cost of education per student in ocean county was over 20K last year. Tuition for the school i send my daughter to is 7600, and I pay 8600 to cover “full cost of Ed.” even though its not really that.
Maybe ask yourself where all the money in public school system goes to?
And maybe you can understand that, as tax payers also, we who send to Private school are paying YOUR education, and getting crumbs in return…
It is the same for every family that sends their children to private or religious based schools. They pay tuition and they pay taxes which fund public education. My parents did for the 4 of us for 12 years each.
Yes, they do.
ANY accredited school in the state is eligible for state-funded bussing.
They are not in the news, because it’s not an issue is most cities, due to the much smaller ratio of private/public schools.
I would advise you to look into the literary rates of public vs private schools.
The Lakewood private schools are actually SAVING the state a ton of money by only having their bussing funded.
Imagine if all 50,000 Lakewood kids went to public school. Do the math: $28k x 50,000.
Be grateful, not hateful.
Are you kidding? We, who mostly own the houses in this township, pay school taxes in the thousands that go straight to the renters’ children that pay NO SCHOOL TAX at all. Um, you’re complaining about the cost of OUR bussing?? Is that all we get for the millions we pour into the school system for OTHER PEOPLE’S CHILDREN??
I’ve been saying this for years: One day, when the religious Jews in this town have had ENOUGH, we will ALL register our children in the public school syst, at an average cost of 23k per child (not to mention the special education children that cost more). People like you will FINALLY thank us for putting our kids in private school. It is our RIGHT to educate our children in the public school system, but you dont want that, do you? You only want our money, not our kids.
I don’t want your money because it doesn’t affect me, but your ability to bus your kids is coming from funding outside of your town, totaling in several millions. Is that really fair? I didn’t ask to bus your kids. And by the way renters to pay taxes in the form of their rent payment.
Ask New York Yeshivos how government involvement in the schools is going. The State should not provide any money for general expenses and tuition. The fact that the community pays high taxes is irrelevant. Taxes go to fund public schools which are open to all, not private schools. How is this controversial?
Both letters published in this site said they don’t have money because parents aren’t paying what they agreed to pay. If a family felt the amount they were being asked to pay was unreasonable the time to figure it out was a long time ago.
Parents pay your dues !
I work in a school and I went on vacation this year for the first time in years and I walk into a store and I see a parent that hasn’t paid tuition in a long time there with his wife. It was really hard for me not to tell the admins in school what I saw….
You never know a person’s circumstance. Sometimes stress of life makes a couple or family need a vacation etc. To you it may seem irresponsible but to them it may be helping their marriage or give them time to recuperate from a nisayon etc. Don’t be the one that’s judging. Everyone’s life is a full picture and today nothing is easy. Tuitions are hard for many pple today,l. It’s a problem! Hashem should help everyone!
Maybe they have a relative not feeling well who needed to have a procedure done in a distant city.
Please pay your tuition bills in full before spending on Mid-Winter vacation
Hiw about making upscale simchos!!🤮
It is time that the community or heads of community sit down and try to plan how to help out with the issue of tuition. The same way there is takanah chasunos available, there is tomchei shabos, kimcha depischa, hatzalah, chaveirim, etc.and many many more organizations that help in every field of our lives. The only place where no help is offered and nothing is planed out is solving this issue of tuition. There maybe has to be kahal’s school that is funded by the donations of the oilem the same way all other tzdaka and help organizations function.
Please ask parents who haven’t paid tuition in 2 years about summer camps. 95 % send to camp and claim they have no choice as it is a necessity . Somehow school is not much a necessity .
Sometimes camp is more necessary the school and a child grows more there. Moreover , schools at the end of the day can fundraise and have methods to keep the lights on . A parent who is forced to pick one or the other, it makes sense to say pay for camp but schools can more easily find other means
There should be a very detailed sliding scale for.tuition where its determined whats affordable for every parent to pay. Thereby its feasible and parents dont just give up.because its out.of range and they cant pay anyways. This will generate much more paid tuition.
Hatzlocha!
This his a heimeshe school they should have the money
