New Jersey is going after more companies for alleged mortgage fraud scams targeting distressed homeowners. Today, Attorney General Anne Milgram announced two new lawsuits charging 10 individual and corporate defendants with misleading desperate homeowners by selling them phony services purporting to help them modify their home loans. Milgram says 42 homeowners were victimized by the latest schemes. In many cases, the homeowners were left in worse financial shape than before they enlisted the services. Milgram reminded homeowners facing foreclosure that free help may be available to them through the state’s foreclosure mediation program. AP
