  1. TLS
the only thing the bike driver failed to do was signal with his hand. A bike is allowed to drive in the road and use a turning lane like any other vehicle.
Maybe vehicles should learn how to signal.

Signal Left with left Arm extended out
Signal Right with Right arm Out or bend your Left arm up at a right angle with your hand flat.
Signal Stop by extending your left arm straight down with your palm facing rearward.

    • True(ish), but his actual turn was still borderline suicidal even if he would have signaled – or even if he was a car for that matter. A turn needs to yield to on coming traffic.

  2. I grew up in a place where biking was very popular and safe. Teach your children to stretch out their left arm to indicate a left turn and right arm for the opposite. Just like cars have blinkers.

  3. As comment #1 says bike should have used signals. However nj law requires bicyclists to use the roadway. It is illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk must be in the road.

  4. While all the commenters here saying that legally bikers are supposed to use the roadway, I have a very hard time believing that this is true in the middle of route 9!
