Attention Howell Residents: Monmouth County’s Free Program Will Pick Up Unwanted Tires

If you are a Monmouth County resident, the Monmouth County Mosquito Control personnel will come to your property and pick up as many as 10 car tires, without rims – for free.

“Tires stored outside hold enough rainwater for mosquitos to grow,” they stated. “One tire can produce more than 10,000 biting mosquitos. Help your family and friends from mosquitoes by taking part in the 2025 tire pick-up program.”

You do not even need to bring them to the curb. If you have tires that you need to keep, store them inside or securely cover them.

To make arrangements, Call 732-542-3630. You will need to provide your name, address, number of tires and the location of the tires on your property.

The program is in effect until March 31, 2025.

Mosquito Madness is a program of the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners.

  1. Formerly Abused Tire Describes Life Under Previous Owner As “A Mosquito-Infested Gehinom!”
A 30-year-old Michelin tire named Michael, whose previous owner subjected him to years of abuse and abandonment inside an old, roofless, tumbledown garage, described life under his previous owner as a, “Mosquito-infested, rain drenched Gehinom!”
“I don’t wish that kind of life upon ANY tire, whether that tire happens to be a Michelin tire or a rival of mine from the Goodyear community,” the pock-marked, punctured and clearly worn out tire told ‘Auto Mechanic Magazine’ on Wednesday.
“Tens of thousands of mosquitos would swarm around my rain-drenched, moldy surface, and bite the living daylights out of my rubber-formulated exterior,” he said. “Sniffles and coughs were daily occurrences and nightmares of mine, as I was forced to endure 20-below zero temperatures in a dim-lighted, roofless, decaying, foul-smelling garage!”
However, the veteran tire only had good things to say about the ‘Monmouth County Mosquito Control Personnel’.
“They extracted me from garage captivity, tended to my mosquito bites, healed my punctured wounds, pumped new air into my valves and breathed new life into me,” he said. “They even found me a new home directly on top of the wheel of a pristine, shiny and perfectly maintained Chevy Blazer.”
For the millions of long-abandoned, tortured and abused tires out there, Michael the Michelin tire had a bold, positive and encouraging message.
“Stay strong, don’t give up, and never lose hope!’ he said. “Because I can attest to the fact that my own personal life has changed dramatically in just a few weeks time – from the moment I was rescued from that dilapidated, mosquito-infested garage until now. And I know that your lives can change dramatically too in the blink of an eye or turning signal.”
“Pretty soon, you TOO will be spinning down the roads, resting on top of your brand new wheels, visiting exciting new destinations, including glamorous rest stops, fun-filled gas stations and adventure-filled auto repair shops!” he said.
“My fellow tires,” he concluded, “I wish you the best of luck, and I promise you that the time of your salvation is right around the corner, right next to the street curb!”
