  1. Regardless of race, religion, or age, women should not be out walking alone in a secluded area! Even in broad day light there are sick people out there with way too much time on their hands just looking for an opportunity to start trouble! Be wise & walk with a partner!

  2. Both men and women should carry (and know how to use) a legal form or pepper spray or mace – especially when travelling in secluded areas.

  3. Fresser / #7: you just touched a very great point.

I few years ago i handed my girlfriend a SABRE key-chain pepper spray canister, which is a police issue strength of 2million scoville heat units, and an advanced formulation of red pepper, CS military tear gas and invisible UV dye(to ID the perp later under a black/UV light). It contains 25, one second bursts.

i took the time to instruct her some basic self-defense & carrying techniques, and even sprayed a quick 1 second burst into a plastic cup for her to smell it, and feel the tiny effects of it so she knows what it feels/smells like. She now feels much more confident, and i feel more at ease knowing she has something to fall back on just in-case. I RECOMMEND ALL WOMEN CARRY AND LEARN TO PROPERLY DEPLOY PEPPER SPRAY.

  4. I happened to go exercise walking for an hour around the lake and off into the area of the games being played-just this past Sunday- contrary to the advice of my family –

I did notice security patrol but in that hour they were mainly at the game-
only once in that hour did one patrol car come around outside of the play area.
I wondered as I was running-Are they there for their amusement??? Or just passing the time till their shift is over- and yes there was a car with someone parked in the parking area not far from the lake- so I tried to avoid that area and went to the area outside of the parking-
What a beautiful park -and what a shame that we now having heard this have to avoid it-
Two women will not preclude an attack- do you expect the second woman to defend the first? What if the attacker has a knife or a gun?And how quick will the police come if that woman calls for help???

  5. Mr conservative – I agree. Make sure you purchase the legal model. Many models exsist!
    Here is NJ’s Law:
NEW JERSEY: Legal with restrictions. Any non-felon 18 or over may possess for your protection “one pocket-sized device which contains and releases not more than three-quarters of an ounce of chemical substance not capable of lethal use or of inflicting serious bodily injury, but rather is intended to produce temporary physical discomfort or disability through being vaporized or otherwise dispensed in the air”.

  6. to #5 i think what #2 was trying to say is she a frum woman, and this should not matter this person could be purple this should not happen at all to any woman. but i agree with you at first i did not understand the remark.

  7. Don’t make a good victim. It’s simple. Walk with a purpose, be aware of your surroundings, don’t put yourself in situations where you could become a victim. Walking in pairs or groups is a good idea, and no one suggests that the second woman should defend the first. The fact is, bad guys looking for victims are looking for the best victim, and all you have to do is not be the one.
