Assemblyman Ron Dancer has introduced legislation that expands the state’s “Safe Corridor” designation to county and local roadways. The bill (A-4825) authorizes the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety (DHTS) to also allow counties and municipalities to designate dangerous highways in their communities as a local “Safe Corridor” area, similar to the current practice for state highways.
“Expanding safe corridors to local roads will help ensure safety of motorists and pedestrians,” said Dancer, R-Ocean, Burlington, Middlesex and Monmouth. “Many local roads have sections that are particularly dangerous or have a higher accident and fatality rate. This designation reminds drivers to slow down and be extra cautious.”
The measure also creates a fund for grants for local highway safety improvement projects, as well as, funds to pay for special law enforcement details.
Currently, the state Department of Transportation establishes “Safe Corridor” zones on only state highways that have accidents and fatality rates exceeding the average.

Is there any study proving that it makes the roads safer? Or its another one of those money makers!
“Safe Corridors” means double the price you pay for a traffic violation. It’s just a money maker for the state, county, town. If it was really for safety reasons there would not be any accidents on “safe corridor” Route 9 through Howell and Lakewood.
