New Jersey Assemblyman Avi Schnall (D-30) has taken a monumental step towards revolutionizing the voting process in the state with the introduction of his first bill, “The Voter Convenience Act”.
This groundbreaking legislation aims to enhance voter accessibility and convenience by allowing registered voters to cast their ballots at any polling place within their municipality on election day.
The Voter Convenience Act proposes a significant shift from the current system, where voters are assigned specific polling places based on their election districts.
Under the bill, the Secretary of State, in conjunction with county clerks and boards of elections, will develop guidelines to enable voters to vote at any polling location in their municipality. This initiative is designed to streamline the voting process, making it more efficient and user-friendly.
Assemblyman Schnall says he was motivated to sponsor this bill after witnessing the challenges faced by voters in his district during recent elections, where many were left waiting in long lines for hours.
“This bill is about empowering voters and removing unnecessary barriers to voting. By making it easier for people to vote, we’re not only improving the election day experience but also strengthening the very foundation of our democracy,” said Schnall.
The proposed legislation will allow district boards of elections at each polling place to use electronic poll books for checking in voters, thereby facilitating their ability to vote on the correct ballot for their election district.
Furthermore, it opens the possibility for establishing countywide polling places, enhancing the flexibility and convenience for voters.
The Voter Convenience Act also includes amendments to current laws to enable county boards of elections to determine the necessary number of district board members at polling places where the bill is implemented. Additionally, it mandates the inclusion of polling place locations under the bill on the sample ballots for primary and general elections.
“This is a transformative step forward for New Jersey’s electoral process,” Assemblyman Schnall added. “By adopting ‘The Voter Convenience Act’, we will be ensuring that every voter has a smoother, more accessible voting experience. It’s about making sure that every voice is heard and that every vote counts without undue hassle.”
An identical bill has been introduced in the Senate by primary sponsors Senator James Beach (D-6) and Senator Nellie Pou (D-35), along with co-sponsor Senator Vincent Polistina (R-2).
Lines were so long a man had to pull up with a cup of water for one of the voters
Isn’t he supposed to be working on reducing tuition costs??
Yea right!!!!
Good idea. Also people can do Mail in ballots.
Baruch Hashem! Think how much bitul Torah this will save.
While on this topic following the lively conversation about the supermarkets, perhaps Avi can arrange for polling places to have separate men & women hours? Or perhaps if we can vote anywhere to have men only & women only polling places?
This will greatly enhance our tsnius & in this zchus Avi will have success in all his endeavors.
It may come as a shock to you but it is actually against the law to segregate polling places based on gender.
Not legal
I believe there are a few options to allow it. 1. We complain under “Freedom of Religion” to practice our faith including gender separation.
2. We have polling place “Officially” labeled houses of worship which would allow gender segregation.
3. As a group we notifying the Board of Elections that unless there are accomodations for our Jewish laws we will not vote in any elections.
That would put our community in a really bad light.
Where my free tuition
What happened go tuition vouchers?
in some small town New Jersey polling places everybody knows everybody and it’s really uncomfortable because they pick up and remember too much about you, so this actually enhances voter confidence and confidentiality by allowing anyone to go to and vote discreetly and protect the privacy and integrity of their voting choice regardless of any declared affiliation or prior alignment.
Can he work on issues that help us financially in a big way? We’re all waiting for our tuition vouchers. Additionally, it would be a tremendous benefit if R’ Avi can work on changing guidelines for Jersey Care. In a democratic state like this, the numbers don’t make any sense. You make a few dollars and your kicked off.
As I said when Avi was running, you will get tuitt vouchers when a tree grot on the top of my hand.
I thought the over crowding at the poling places was supposed to be solved with early voting.
All I see is another way for voter fraud.
Exactly. That has always been the problem with all these ideas. That’s why the Democrats like them. I believe the Democrat party put Avi up to this. They think if a popular honest Jew requests it, it will be looked upon in a better light.
I’m quite disappointed. I voted for Avi based on his promise to pass legislation requiring separate seating on all public & private transportation.
When are we getting the free tution we where promised?
You guys can forget about tuition vouchers. In the industry, this is k own as a “campaign promise.”
But he’s cutting to the chase and tackling the real issues, I see. And that makes me proud.
How is this a “real issue”?
this is totally why we sent him there to work on these most important legislation!! Welcome to the swamp avi!
