As the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission continues to struggle with high demand for appointments, Assemblyman Avi Schnall (D-Lakewood) has once again arranged for the MVC Mobile Unit to visit Lakewood later this month.
Residents interested in booking an appointment can do so via the NJ MVC Mobile Unit online portal, which will go live on Thursday, August 7, between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Due to high demand and limited availability, appointments are expected to fill quickly.
The mobile unit will be at 500 River Avenue on August 21, in the back parking lot.
Appointments are required for:
- REAL ID
- Registration Renewal
- Initial Permit**Tests are NOT given at the Mobil Unit
- Non-Driver ID
- Duplicate/ Replacement Title or Registration
No Appointment Necessary for these services:
- Surrendering license plates
- Handicapped, Veterans, or Purple Heart placecards
- Purchase red GDL decals
Earlier this year, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission announced additional opportunities for its customers to get a REAL ID with the creation of dedicated “REAL ID Thursdays” at Licensing Centers across the state.

How about instead of arranging a mobile van once a month with a handful of employees, you actually solve the problem and staff our DMV’s properly.

It’s not open yet, try again tomorrow between 2 and 3 pm
Should be open now… & still says no appointments available!
What is so complicated that New Jersey can’t figure it out?
I made an online appointment in Maryland to get a new license. From entering, waiting to be called & conducting my business I was in & out in under 20 minutes. The new license came in the mail 2 days later.
it’s 2:00 pm where are the appointments?
it feels like black Friday jut waiting in line and keep on refreshing and getting nothing
At 206pm all appointments are taken. At 201pm Lakewood site wasn’t even posted at the mobile appointment site… definitely frustrating
No appointment available. Second time around! What gives??
