Assembly Democrats Ralph Caputo and Joseph Cryan announced they will be introducing legislation to require all New Jersey gas stations to have generators, but also provide low-interest government loans to help pay for the equipment.
“It’s frustrating to think that the gasoline crisis hitting our state through power outages could have been avoided, but with this bill, we’ll make sure future power outages don’t push New Jerseyans into long and stressful lines,” said Caputo (D-Essex). “But while we better plan for the future, we also need to be cognizant of the need to help out gas station owners, many of whom are independent small business owners who would be hit hard by such an upgrade. We can do that with low-interest loans and get this done for the benefit of everyone.”
“With improved planning, we can make sure we don’t see a repeat of this problem due to power outages,” said Cryan (D-Union). “This is a smart and sensible step, but also one that can prove costly to the business people that run these stations, so we can help ease the burden with low-interest loans. This will help consumers and businesses alike, and is the best approach to actually getting this done.”
Caputo and Cryan said they’re having the bill drafted and will introduce it as soon as possible. TLS.
Here we go again, Obama won and now the Democrats are out passing laws that are to control our lives. The gas shortage was a 2 part problem true the stations had no power, but with all the downed trees no one was going to drive anyway. The tankers could not get to the stations that needed the fuel.
Won’t a generator cause a fire hazard?
They are not taling cheap hoesehold generators . They mean the commercial generators that will automatically power the whole station and they are not cheap
the way I read the headline, it made it sound as if they are requiring gas stations to offer low interest loans!
