UPDATED: A man is in custody this morning following a high speed police chase. The incident began at approximately 1:00 a.m. in Freehold when the man – listed in the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) as Endangered and Suicidal – was pulled over by police, and the driver fled the traffic stop. Freehold police alerted Lakewood Police that the suspect – driving a blue Mustang – may be headed into Lakewood.
The man came into Lakewood and was spotted by the LPD driving at a normal rate of speed, Detective William Addison tells TLS.
When the vehicle stopped at a light, the officer activated his lights attempting to pull over the driver, and that is when the suspect took off at a high rate of speed, and the officer immediately broke off.
Seconds later, another LPD officer called in that the suspect was making a left onto Rt 88 heading east.
The officer attempted to stop the suspect, but after a few seconds, the suspect was out of sight and entering Brick Township.
Lt. Meyer – the shift’s Supervisor – broke off the officer, Lt. Addison says, and had the police dispatcher inform Brick the direction of travel.
The suspect was later arrested in Neptune.
Freehold police charged the suspect with Eluding Police of the 2nd Degree, and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer.

To # 2. Thank you for the correction.
I was driving on the 9 last night and the mustang must’ve passed me at 120 mph. There were six police cars in pursuit. I’m glad they caught him.
I was on rt9 in freehold at a traffic light as this blue mustang blew down the shoulder right through the red light. Flying had to be well into the 100mph range. Police were well behind him. Glad no one got hurt.
