A man armed with a gun at a hotel in Lakewood prompted a large response from law enforcement and the evacuation of the building, police confirmed to TLS.
At approximately 12:30 AM, Lakewood police officers responded to the Best Western hotel on Route 70 for the reports of an armed man in a hotel room.
“Upon arrival, they confirmed the initial report and identified the room that the male subject was occupying, Detective Sergeant LeRoy Marshall told TLS.
Areas of the hotel were evacuated and members of the Special Response Team including negotiators were requested to the scene.
“After numerous negotiation attempts with the subject, he finally surrendered to Police at approximately 5am without incident.”
Paul Douglas Weaver, 52, from Copper Hill, Virginia was ultimately charged with Terroristic Threats, Marshall said. A firearm and ammunition were recovered and seized.
Marshall thanked Toms River Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Howell Police Department and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance during the investigation.
