Ervin Oross, the director of the Department of Community Development, Lakewood, has announced that public service groups can now apply for competitive 2011 Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). The CDBG program is federally funded, and each year a committee is set up locally to deal with the application reviews. This year’s liaison to the committee -as was last year – is Deputy Mayor Steven Langert.
There are strict guidlines for the funds, but last year, the 15% earmarked for the public sector services, was focused on soup kitchens and food pantries. Last year’s total alotment was approximately $800,000. 15% of that, approximately $120,000, was earmarked for the public services.
“As liaison, I am again going to ask the committee to focus on food pantries and soup kitchens”, Deputy Mayor Steven Langert told TLS.
Applications are also available in the offices of the Lakewood Township Clerk. The application process cannot be done by e-mail; only hard copy will be considered.
The deadline for completed 2011 CDBG project applications is Monday, February 28, 2011 by 4:00 p.m. Applications can only be mailed or hand-delivered to Mr. Ervin Oross, Director, Department of Community Development, 231 Third Street, Second Floor, Lakewood, N.J. 08701.
To apply, you can call 732-905-5947 for applications or questions about the program and eligibility.

will there be a list of who got the money.?
#1 who cares. if you want some money apply..
more of our tax $ going down the drain
The federal government is GIVING the money to the township to give out.
Read the second sentence-it says that this program is federally funded.
Because you don’t understand what that means, I’ll explain it……It means that it is federally funded.
#4 where do you think the federal government gets the money from. The federal government is GIVING our tax money away.I’ll explain it….. it means that we pay tax’s and the government keeps shelling it out and then they say we need to RAISE people’s tax’s higher. Like what #2 says who cares? apply.
And to number 1, once the applications are approved, a list is available. if you are really interested, you can view the list of previous applicants and those that were approved by contacting town hall.
