Anti-Zionists harass South Side Sandwich Shop (SSSS) about their Israeli flag; Support for shop pouring in

When Yosef Mutterperl hung up flags in front of his Lakewood shop two days ago, he didn’t expect it to go this viral – and the anti-Zionists are coming out in droves.

The flags he hung up, were the US flag, the Israeli Flag, and the Flag of the Israeli Army.

The anti-Zionists immediately got to work, sending out messages via social media, asking all to call his shop to ask him to remove the Israeli flags – claiming it was against the Torah.

TLS spoke with Mutterperl – a volunteer firefighter and supporter of Israel – who says support for his shop is pouring in, and he can’t keep up with the demand.

“I’m literally almost out of food product,” Mutterperl said. He then explained he couldn’t talk on the phone because it was “crazy” at his shop – due to the huge crowds.

As of this afternoon, the flag was still flying outside his shop.

Because asking to call a shop, just because he disagrees with you is a hater move. inciting against a person or a facilty is a hater move. Because most of the so called “Kanoim” have no Reyach and no Ruach shel Torah. I am no Zionist, learned in the most litvishe Yeshivas in EY and Id tell you that in order to have no part with this “Meshugenes” Id put an Israeli flag on my door too.You guys in LKWD need to chill out. Its easy to be a radical from far. Go get your Ferragamo and try not to eat your 300 Dollar Steak b4 you talk about the Tpure Hashkofa and Derech hatorah…

The old shul on park Avenue used to have an American and Israel flag next to the Aron kodesh.

When I was a kid I remember other shuls that had the same.

If you dont like it, shut your mouth and dont eat there.

Rav Aharon Kotler z”l davened in the Sefardishe Shul in BP, which had both an Israeli and American flag. Didn’t bother him.
At every Ner Yisroel dinner they sang the Hatikva. Didn’t bother anyone either.
And what does someone’s political views have to do with kashrus?

Your statement is both painful to read emotionally and not accurate logically. Most people are completely ignorant with the fundamentals that are Zionism. We unfortunately live in a reality that is called Israel as a state, and therefore many Rabbanim is EY have come to the realization without the enthusiasm that we need the Israeli government to live there(hence the Israeli flag in Ponovez).
If you study history as well and as profound as I have you will see a connection between two writers who hated Jews with all their heart. One of them even quoted the other. The first one was the founder of Zionism Theador Hertzel (his most anti-semetic views are openly stated in a essay he composed called Maushel-which I suggest you read) the other copied some of Hertzel’s work in his infamous book. Do I need to explicitly state the author of Main Kamph? (I you don’t believe me please check this for yourself)
To paraphrase what you said-that if we would have had the state it would have saved us from the holocaust is exactly what the Brisker Rav was referring to when he said “The Zionist have won!”
To further that statement, Rav Avigdor Miller was very open in saying that the start of the movement of Zionism is what brought the holocaust. The reason why that statement is emotionally painful to hear is that you are suggesting that people can have control over their fate-which clearly we know that that is not the case. Hashem brought the holocaust and we couldn’t have saved ourselves.

I suggest you read up on the origins of Zionism and then maybe your views would change. I say this not because I am attempting to make a mockery of you chas veshalom, but rather to shed some light on a topic that includes many opinions but very little knowledge.

Just because Israel was founded by some bad people does not make the country today as bad. Do not forget that 16 out of 61 ruling members of the knesset are Charedi.

To be fair...

To be fair, Bubbie Zelda didn’t say that the Holocaust wouldn’t have happened. She said there would’ve been more “of us” ie. meaning her generation left alive. That could have been because Israel was saved b’derech nes, if more people had been allowed to immigrate, they would’ve been saved along with the rest of the Yishuv, and if the escapees during the war hadn’t been turned away by the British, they could’ve been saved as well. Obviously “could have” is al pi derech hateva because we believe that Hashgacha put each person in the right place at the right time and his fate was predetermined by Hashem, but her point was that the founding of the State and the exit of the British are certainly a positive development in many ways and there are many who appreciate that. Is it perfect? Of course not. Is there truth to what you quote from Rav Miller? Of course! But neither of those are necessarily proving that Bubbie Zelda’s comment is inaccurate. You’re discussing different things, no reason to argue unnecessarily.

Btw. There are laws that tell us an American flag should be higher in height than any other flag it is displayed with. If only two flags are being displayed on a building the American flag should be on the right. If three flags are displayed the American flag should be in the middle always higher than the other flags

Nope- the Supreme Court ruled those laws are unconstitutional. So now there merely guidlines that Federal agencies have to adhere to, but not private citizens.

First of all why is it ok for you to hate on the “anti zionists” but it’s not ok for them to disagree with you?
Second you say anti Zionist like it’s a bad thing a better word would be a religious Jew every single religious Jew is anti Zionist if your not your not religious…there’s not one ehrlicha yid who is pro Zionist it’s against the Torah the only questions are can you vote or not but no religious Jews are pro Zionist
Third why would you be pro Zionist when the Zionist hate you? there’s no denying the facts that the Zionist from day one have hated frum Jews
Four the fact that Ponevez yeshiva has a flag has absolutely no bearing on hanging a flag out of Eretz Yisroel in Israel there is a element of hakoras hotov for the money given to the yeshivas but definitely not in America…

Once again, just like the Kumzitz fiasco, some delusional bottom-feeder minority has besmirched and hijacked Lakewood’s name and reputation.

In their quest to satisfy their OWN personal feelings, and efforts to place their OWN quality-control standards of corrupted purity, they embarrass us all, and harass a frum business owner.

A Purim Shpiel complaint, not worthy of the most inebriated of Purim stages!! (Little bit of an out-of-season reference, I know).

These things only became issues when a certain group started pouring into Lakewood. Their ideology already caused problems, when they had cheder kids standing along the highway, holding up NK style signs, letting every goy know that some Jews hate other Jews.

Just the set the record straight. This dishonest and truly ignorant myth that if there would have been an Israel before the war more Jews would have been save. The Germans under Rommel were within an ace of invading Israel and the Nazis would have killed all the Jews there. It was an absolute miracle that he was defeated at El Alamein. The Allies were terrified that the Japs and Germans would link up and made emergency contingent plans to deal with that. Go study your World War 2 history and not repeat this old Zionistic myth. I don’t agree with this Jewish Taliban chillul Hashem but this perversion of facts turns my stomach.

Read either:
1. Perfidy (Ben Hecht)
2. Al ha’geulah v’al hatemurah (the Satmar Rov – Reb Yoel)
3. Ba’ayos hazman (Reb Reuvain Grizovsky)
4. The Empty Wagon (Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro)
And you’ll understand what the Israeli flag rally stands for.

Ben Hecht wasn’t exactly a tzadik either, and he just had a different agenda to push. But I love how for some people his word is all of the sudden torah min hashamayaim because its what they want to hear

Well said

@Frumoc – In this case you happen to be 100% right. K’derech HaTeva, Rommel would have steamrolled through Egypt and Israel was powerless to stop him. He Was the Desert Fox with a mighty undefeated army. It was A Neis Niglah that he was defeated and turned away. And it was the prayers of the kinderlach, not the Israeli Army that beat him.

And, btw, the previous poster is right about the Flag Rule. I dont care if SSSS flies a flag but if there are 3 the US flag needs to be in middle. And that’s not a Minhag Toiv, that’s the law !!

Rabbi Avigdor Miller, zatzal, the answers a question presented to him in May 1980, (taken from TorasAviggdor.org): the Fourth of July has no Jewish connotation; it’s a neutral thing. And since it’s a demonstration of loyalty to the country where you live, so it certainly is virtuous to hang out a flag on the Fourth of July. I think that all Jews should be interested in demonstrating solidarity with the American people. And especially to thank Hakodosh Boruch Hu that there is such a country that fosters such ideals of liberty which Jews enjoy today.
The fifth of Iyar is a different story entirely. The Medinas Yisrael was founded by atheists. Of course, there was a small handful of ma’aminim also. But the vast majority were atheists, and they were extreme left-wing radicals. Even today, the first of May is a big day in the State of Israel – because it was all Marxism.
So how can we demonstrate any kind of sympathy with a State that is diametrically opposed to the Torah? The mere fact that they draft girls into the army is such a horrendous contradiction to Jewish tradition, to Jewish attitudes, that for that alone, every conscientious Jew should feel a tremendous hostility to the State of Israel.
It’s no exaggeration to say that we ought to organize brigades and invade the State of Israel! Now as queer as that will sound to you, that’s the truth. Now, of course we can’t do it because there are so many frum Jews who have to be protected today – and that’s our big worry! But the chillul Hashem of drafting girls into the army is unequaled – even in the nations of the world.

Yaakov

Israeli Flag, Is it Right or Wrong? THAT IS NOT THE DISCUSSION HERE.

In Rome you do what the Romans do. If you think that He didnt know that he was opening up a can of worms, you are totally naive.
You cant expect to hang and Israeli flag in the middle of Lakewood and not make a ruckus. The same way If you go to Efrat and burn an Israeli flag. They will have your head. Wether you are right or wrong. You cant go to a zionist settlement and stick it to their face.
That is what the issue is
