Another Tent City Resident Charged With Multiple Burglaries

tent_city_pd_tlsComing on the heels of last week’s arrests, another Tent City resident was charged with multiple burglaries around Lakewood, Detetctve Sergeant Greg Staffordsmith said today.

Last week, police announced that Alihbo Rosado was arrested and charged with 47 counts of Burglary and Theft.

“As a result of that arrest, Detectives Aakjer and Cavallo were able to link Alihbo’s brother, 25 year old Mathew Rosado, also of Tent City, as an accomplice in several of them,” says Staffordsmith.

Mathew Rosado was arrested on several unrelated outstanding warrants, Saturday January 18th, at the Bounce U after police responded to a report of a verbal argument between a male and female.

“Further investigation, determined his involvement in recent Lakewood burglaries,” says Staffordsmith. “He was subsequently charged with 22 Burglary related offenses, including Burglary, Theft and Criminal Mischief, stemming from burglaries to residential homes located on Magnolia Dr, Rudwin St, Murray St, North Dr. and Hearthstone Dr. dating back to December of 2013. He was also charged with Burglary and Theft from two synagogues located on Milton St and Squankum Rd also during the month of December 2013.”

Det. Pete Aakjer and Det Mike Cavallo were able to recover additional proceeds that linked Alihbo Rosado to two more burglaries of East Spruce Street homes that occurred back in October of 2103.

Bail was set by Judge Basen in the amount of $97,500 no 10%. He is currently in the Ocean County Jail. [TLS]

  1. It’s really not fair! Why are you reporting this? You are slandering the great people of tent city. They never did anything wrong in their lives besides for being homeless!! Lol!! Hopefully they will all be taken care of soon and move into a shelter so they can try to live a normal live & not the life of animals living outdoors and stealing

  2. To who ever posted great job LPD, you don’t know why these two young men did what they did, all you know is what is being reported. So don’t sit there and judge them.

  3. Hey anonymous, they did this to support their heroin habit and violated a lot of people’s privacy along the way, including children. So if you feel for them, maybe you should open your home to them and give these poor troubled men a roof over their head. Here is a tip though..hide your valuables.

Funny, all day long I see “help wanted” signs. These two dummies chose to steal honest hard working residents belongings instead of looking in to all those help wanted signs.

  4. Wow, I applaud the courage of unethical and obviously misinformed people, like this one NAMED “Anonymous”, whose parents were obviously lacking in wit and imagination.

Being of tribal descent and just the third generation off the res, I can assure you, “Anonymous”, that living in a tent doesn’t make one a lesser member of any society. Just as our veterans who defend the right of free speech, even for the sorry likes of your cowardly hide.

It also doesn’t make them thieves.

It’s people like you who slander and form opinions on half-truths, or no truth at all, and mistaken feel superior that are the real low-rung members of American society who lack even enough sense to be ashamed of the foul thoughts in your dark heart and simple mind.

  5. Yo guys we havta make a pro tent city movement because a lot of our fellow lakewoodians hate them and these poor homeless guys can’t even defend themselves #stopthehate #tentcityhelps #lakewoodrocks (again am I the only one who finds those are u human q’s hard to answer)

  6. Guess tent city sucked now they got three hot meals a cot hit showers clean Clothing heat recreation tv and more good job they were being punished before this now they get rewarded

  7. “….you don’t know why these two men did what they did….” REALLY? Is there ever a good reason to take someone else’s property?! I’m sure the victims who lost sleep at night over their items with sentimental value feel the same.

  8. To: “you don’t know why these two men did what they did”
Who in their right mind would justify breaking into people’s homes and not only steal but possibly traumatize parents and children??? If they just wanted to get warm in jail they didn’t have to burglarize 22 houses! There is nothing in the world to convince me that because these guys made some bad decisions in life, it gives them the right to take anything of mine which I have WORKED for. No excuse, and I don’t care what happened to them in their childhood, blah blah blah…

  9. Im shocked at this story. Residents of Tent City did this ?!! Burglarizing 47 & 22 homes ?!! Cant be. Tent City residents are law-abiding citizens, are they not ? Yes, theyre not.

  10. I agree with Angelia Phillips! Just because someone is less fortunate and can’t afford to live in a place that costs, does NOT make them any less part of society!!! BUT stealing surely does make someone less part of society!!

  11. oh, all u people, seriously, what do u think? no one is being cold-hearted or thinking that someone who cant afford to live in a place that costs is lower part of society…but if u think deeply into it, with common sense, u come out with the facts that if someone doesnt work, he still needs food to exist, and how is he supposed to buy necessities if he has no money? of course he has to rob, because otherwise there is no way to stay alive….so no one can say that tent city people are law abiding citizens…dont u see every other day someone else is found dealing with drugs, alcohol problems, and theft? dont tell me u still believe they are law abiding!!! the facts are clear as day!!!!

  12. If the Ocean County Prosecutor had only taken the Minister to Trial, Tent City would have imploded, but now we are stuck with Steve Brigham and his band of merry men and women . Its not the Tents that make them bad- its their addictions and mental illnesses which the Minister says do NOT exist in TC.

  13. The reason they stole from people was to support their heroin addiction. They chose to be homeless because of their heroin addiction as well.

  14. Time to end Tent City. I wonder if Judge Foster reads the newspaper to see what a fine mess those ” innocent homeless people ” have caused around Lakewood . Its time for the mentally ill, addicted and belligerent Tent City residents to be made to obey rules ( one of which is to leave Tent City and find shelter ) , become re-educated and re-enter society . Why are we considered cruel and unjust for wanting the illegal encampment to end- while Judge Foster is considered very kind for letting them live out in the cold , and without social services to help them? I know many residents have refused help in the past ,but now it is time for “my way ( Lakewood Town) or the highway ( go back to Seaside ) . Compassion is making people get treatment , not squatting in the cold.
