TLS has previously reported on multiple instances in which it seemed that Jackson officials were discriminating against Jews and making hateful comments towards them.
Now, the social media posts of another official – a Mayor-appointed Rent Control Board member – shows his deep hatred toward the Orthodox Jewish residents of Jackson.
See the attached screenshots and decide for yourself what Mr. Bannon’s attitude towards Jews is.
It is officials like Bannon that further bring into question whether Jackson’s local government has it in for Orthodox Jews. There seems to be an ongoing issue of anti-Orthodox individuals being appointed to important positions in Jackson.
If Mayor Reina and Council President Nixon really took anti-Semitism seriously and truly wanted to accommodate religious minorities, they would do a deep scrub of every single official in town. But don’t hold your breath on that happening anytime soon.
I wonder if it would take the Attorney General this long to take action if this was happening to African Americans or Muslims.

This hateful character needs to resign IMMEDIATELY. There is no way this guy can represent the Public after his despicable white supremacist comments. Jackson officials want to keep Jackson white. A certain kind of white that doesn’t include Jews, blacks, or Latinos. It’s a disgrace that he was appointed in the first place. Jackson is embroiled in multiple lawsuits alleging discrimination and this is who they appoint to sit on a government board??
I see a dialogue that is angry that the township as they knew it is slowly changing to reflect our community’s lifestyle and they are not really open-minded to change their preconceived views. If people know that Jackson does not want an eruv & is unfriendly, that should be part of their decision to buy there. Rather than change the township, can they live without an eruv? Can they put one up around their home like we grew up with 30 years ago, and the kids knew not to carry down the block and we didn’t wheel strollers to visit. I think the approach should be friendly. Live in Jackson for a few years. Smile. Let them see how nice, wholesome, and responsible your family is. What a pleasant, safe neighbor you are. Then politely request, and you might get a positive response… Just my 2 cents.
Are they wrong? Whats the point of just putting up screenshots, why doesn’t TLS address the concerns listed in they’re comments? You are only showing one parties side. It’s simple, they do not want the overpopulation, traffic, bad infrastructure, just to name a few of Lakewood’s issue’s. Are they really to blame for that? I live in Lakewood and highly dislike what is happening in my town, So I can understand them attemting to prevent it from happening in the town over.
@Lkwdmom This isn’t about an Eruv. This is about them not wanting Jews in their town. Plain and simple. They say this 24/7 on the Nazi Facebook pages dedicated to hating on Jews in ocean county. They don’t even deny that they could care less about an Eruv. It’s all about making it difficult for Jews to live here in order to get them not to move to Jackson. Some of these folks believe that Jews ought to be in ghettos and shouldn’t be allowed out of the town walls past 11 pm. We live in America. Jews can live wherever they want despite what some neo nazi facebook pages spew daily.

What Isn’t Welcomed here is Telling The Residents of Jackson, (or Any Town for That Matter), that WE NOW Took Over Your Board and Men Can Only Swim Between These Hours and Women Can Only Swim Between These Other Hours-And NEVER The Two Shall Meet. We Don’t Want to Hear That WE Took over Your Board and The Rules Are Now THIS!!! If you move in and are civil and can mingle with the next door neighbors, You Are MORE THAN Welcome. If you are looking to move in and Uproot The Entire Town to Live by Your Standards, then we have a problem. Come and be neighborly and you are More Than Welcome.

Honestly, I cried as I read the conversations above. Its plain scary to see how much hate there is out there..I hope that most of the resudents of Jackson recognize that their new neighbors are kind, caring, law abiding citizens who are seeking a wholesome, peaceful family life..people who want to be good neighbors and to do their part in making the world a better place..And I agree with Lkwd Mom above- if the eruv is causing resentment, maybe its time to rethink it..
