Another 5,000 students will begin busing on Monday; Busing Updated from LSTA Director Avraham Krawiec

lakewood-bus-carpool-traffic-day-2-9-8-161-   This Monday morning there will be another 5,000 students PLUS that will be boarding buses to get to schools B’H. If you’re starting busing on Monday, please remember it’s the first day and delays occur as the drivers learn the routes.

2-   We have bids scheduled for more school routes on Monday, Tuesday and Friday with more routes being picked up this week iyh .

3-   At the end of this week, or early next week, we will have a better picture as to what the shortage of buses will look like.

4-   The Bus companies are begging for more drivers so they can put more buses on the road. Some of the vendors are even willing to pay for the training. It’s a great part time job that works with the BMG schedule. Please be in contact with the vendors if you’re interested.

5-   Sunday busing does not work thru the LSTA. It is contracted privately thru the school and the vendor .

6-   Most of the boys highs schools will be bid out over the next few days. They don’t really impact our bus shortage as they are early in and a late out. There is no guarantee that every boys high school will be picked up by a vendor.

7-   The LSTA doesn’t know the locations of the buses while on routes.

8-   This transition will take a few more weeks to sort itself out. We are transitioning a massive behemoth – bli ayin horah 30k kids strong to a private entity – with predicted snags along the way. We need to find creative options to supply the busses needed for the demands. All ideas welcomed at [email protected] .

9-  This shortage of buses was a realty before this bill was signed and will be here until we either bring past vendors back or new vendors join the market.

10-   As always, for a quicker response email us at [email protected].

Why did I get a letter from my school that they are charging each student $150 for bussing?

Where is our bussing? Pawnee area!!

Moishy- only non-mandated students (courtesy busing living closer to school than allowed) have to pay $150 instead of the actual $600—$700 per year that it costs per student to be bussed to school. It is to help offset the costs.

Moishy – Could it be for Sunday busing? That is not and never was covered.

will all buses be solved by chanuka?

The schools are not charging anything. The LSTA is charging 150 dollars for the non mandated. There is not enough money, left over from the mandated to pay for all the non mandated.

If u don’t qualify for mandatory bussing and there’s extra space for ur kid, they’re gonna charge you $150

I don’t have busing yet and I am not courtesy busing. You can’t imagine what it takes to get my kids to school and home everyday. I actually paid someone to do some runs for me just to give me a break. I’m losing hours of work coming late and leaving early. I’m losing money paying someone to take my kids when they are able to help me out. I can’t join a carpool because I have to take a few of my kids in the car just to drive the kids to school…. I’m considering keeping my kids home till there’s busing since I’m drained from figuring out how to get them to school each day.

How do I apply for aid in lue for this week?

no busing yet

Everytime I read a busing update it sounds like there’s no guarantee everyone will have busing. So although I’m very happy for all the courtesy busing who got busing, I feel bad for people like me who are not courtesy busing and are left with no busing. Doesn’t seem fair to me….

Can the schools start working on busing for next year already? This way by September it might actually be organized.
Or maybe the schools should all have private busing and then figure out how to get money back form the government. This way the year starts off with busing and figure out the reimbursement later.
It’s insane that I come at least a half an hour late to work every day since girl schools start at 9:15, the amount of money I am losing is more than the busing costs.
Sorry I needed to vent…

It seems that the people who live the furthest and are entitled to the mandated bussing the most, are the least likely to get it, as they are the least profitable routes for the bus companies.

Could someone please explain;

1. Why are the no police directing traffic this past week?

2. Why are they doing construction on Williams at 9:30 in the morning in the height of rush hour on the craziest week of the year?

Please forward to to the Lakewood Township: Why in the world are you fixing something on Prospect Street at 9:00??? Why do you not take traffic into account when doing repairs?? Prospect and Williams was backed up for 15 minutes. Who is in charge of coordinating this???
Starting this project an hour late would have saved hundreds of people an hour of time.

Thank you!

Thank you to all those doing the impossible to obtain bussing! Your efforts are hugely appreciated!

Attn Lakewood ppl who have been living in a hole in the ground and not paying attention to what has been happening!!!
1) the BOE no longer coordinates bussing the LSTA is now responsible for this.
2) the routes are being bidded out (not sure if that’s correct ;)!) by school not area of Lakewood.
3) there is a shortage of bus drivers and vendors. No one in charge can control this and they are trying their best to get as many routes taken.
4) the begin in of the yr busses are always inconsistent I don’t know why this is a shock for some of u!
5) Lakewood has been allotted a certain amount of money based on the mandated bussing and the LSTA is now trying to stretch it as far as possible. If u have courtesy busses you need to pay a small fee to help cover the cost which would have been much greater.
6) my children DO NOT have bussing and I have 4 diff pick up and drop off times. I am waiting patiently and trying not to complain.

Oh and p.s. The bill was passed right before the school yr started. We have gotten really far at this point and once all the schools have bussing they will then work on getting more efficient routes that make most sense.
