Anonymous man picks up hefty dinner tab for Lakewood emergency volunteers in Texas

When a tired group of Lakewood volunteers got ready to check out of a restaurant in Texas last night, they were left speechless when their entire dinner tab was picked up by an anonymous man.

The volunteers, in Houston assisting victims of Hurricane Harvey, tell TLS they were sitting in a Kosher restaurant when a man passed by during their meal to thank them for their services, and said, “G-d bless you guys,” before walking off.

But about an hour later, they were shocked to learn that the man – who left no information – had told the restaurant “it’s all on me,” before leaving the establishment.

The tab? Approximately $800.

“It was just amazing,” Ben Inzelbuch, one of the volunteers, told TLS.

The group has been going from home to home, trying to help the victims getting their lives back in order after the devastating Hurricane.

“People here really lost everything – it’s just horrible,” says Inzelbuch.

The Lakewood group is one of several groups from around the Country who traveled to Texas to offer their expertise.

  1. $800 for 5 people isn’t too crazy for a restaurant bill. $125 per person + 20% tip.

And don’t forget – these guys have been living off of crackers and jam for the past week.

  2. You guys are nuts if they would take a guys credit card and spend 800 is one thing they planned on paying for it let them live how they want

  3. They deserve it the work that they do deserves $800 of food what about the time they are spending there I am sure you are willing to pay $1600 not to have to go

  4. Why are you worried about the money? Just be happy and thankful that they were able to be there to help the people in such great need. Bless all of them and the people that can donate money a special prayer is being prayed for you.

  5. I remember splitting a bill in a Monmouth County restaurant with another couple for a bit less than $500 more than 20 years ago. It was a bring-your-own and we had brought our own. The restaurant is now gone a victim of Sandy. Or maybe economics. I hardly thought it was worth what we paid but I was kind of in a position where I had to. This doesn’t seem that bad at all. I have eaten in Texas quite a bit and certainly you don’t have to pay $125 a person in a barbecue joint but I’m not going to question anything that anybody who was down there trying to help and wish nobody else would either. I’m sure these guys planned to pay the bill themselves so why even a story other than somebody else was very generous. And a bunch of other people are very small.
