VIDEO: How much does the guy on his phone in Shul bother you? It apparently bothered this one person enough to want to make a video of it. The video, to the tune of ‘Numa Numa’ with Lego people, is perhaps not the classiest of videos, but nevertheless delivers an important message regarding texting and talking on the phone during davening.

Wow so good.
Could you please email that video to my cell phone, I will look at it again at mincha btween when I finish & chazoras hashatz only, that sometimes is a real long time.
Just kidding never took a cellphone in to shul in years. If I ever bother with a prepaid it stays in the glove box.
hey lately the phones dont ring out loud
but the texting and reading on the phones is terrible!
in middle of davining, in middle of krias hatorah
it has to stop
Someone has alot of time on his hands.
What happens these days with cell phones during Davening? We say to ourselves, Hashem i am not going to talk on the phone i don’t care who it is if its my wife or if it says 911 i promise you i won’t talk during davening I’M JUST GOING TO LOOK AT THE CALLER ID. Now tell me why is that just as bad as talking on the phone or even worse? When you see this number on your caller ID, your entire Davening just got lost. For the rest of davening you are all worried what could my wife want from me? Is it good or bad? Maybe i just lost a big chance of a business deal. I f you don’t recognize the caller ID your always thinking who could it be? Is it good or bad? & then your hands are shaking for the rest of davening. PROBLEM: we don’t realize who we are standing in front of & that he sees you looking at your cell phone at the EXACT SAME time that you are davening to Hashem. If you keep you cell phone in the car until you come back, Hashem will hear & appreciate your Davening much much more.
the guy may have a powerful point, but his voice is so annoying, i just can’t help but shut him off!!
Very well put, although I find it pretty embarrassing that it has to be said at all. I think it’s rude enough when ppl gab in front of each other when they’re out together or in the car together etc. But in front of G-d to me that’s just a tad mortifying!
I find it hard to refrain from loshon hora, and I have a temper. Sometimes I eat enough to maybe be a naval berishus hatorah. But I can still make myself feel heilig by complaining when people bring cellphones into shul. Chasdei Hashem!
to #5, that was rly rude!!
so sad that phones took over our lives there is no menucha even in shul. people could enjoy life so much more without being connected all the time. its so annoying when u get a call and the first question is where r u cant we have a little privacy
Its a bit weird that he chose to put these words together with a non jewish song!
All this shows is that despite all the lectures, mussar, etc. people jsut do not feel that they are entering the house of Hashem when they go to shul. That simple. Makes no difference how much they learn, how long their tzitzis hang out, etc. They feel that the person on the other end of the phone line is more important than the rebbono shel olom. There has been a significant yerida in kedushaas bais hakneses in America in the past 20 years. No doubt about it.
I love the shockling lego men!
But seriously, just focus on the rudeness of the behaviour towards the other mispallelim. Bemoaning how yenem has no kavanna is really not your business.
happy to see that you are not prejudiced and you include an african american ger in your music video
when people go to shows, they manage to turn off their phones (or at least put it on vibrate) they should should at least do this in shul
There should be a sign posted prominently: Anyone whose cell phone is not shut off – and it rings during davening -must pay $18. to the gabbai or may not return to this shul in the future.
I am pretty sure the video maker is either a baal teshuva, Modern Orthodox, or both. How do I know? Because sadly, among the regular frumme olam, playing with smartphones in shul, during shiur, etc. has become so normal that the only people who are bothered by it are those who are such bnei aliya that they won’t waste the time necessary to make a video.
I am horrified that people make “choizek” from people who are just trying to make us aware of things that we are doing that are assur. I thought we were better than that. Thank you to the person who made the video. We all need to be reminded. Yasher Koach.
I’m sorry about the voice, #5. I had to electronically alter it so they don’t throw me out of Yeshiva.
#10 It’s a Jewish song now! (Just like “Yidden” and all the other Jewish songs.)
# 17, thank you. well said.
# 16’s kasha is answered by # 3 and the original post’s point. Ha gufa! If I had more time and wasn’t so worried about bitul zman, I would have time to make a “classier” video.

very cute but you really think this will help people, or get the people who actually use their phones in shul more nervous!?!?!?!?!?
#14, people may not have their ringer on, but they do talk a lot. #4, maybe people don’t have their phones with them; they’ll just talk to the person next to them. Every day, when I go to shul, there ate people talking all the time. That’s why I sit in the front. Once, similar to what #15 said, our rabbi put up signs in the back of shul that said “Please do not talk in this area,” and people didn’t listen. I noticed that some people didn’t even notice it. Then, at the end of maariv one Friday night, he announced that he was going to put up new signs that said, “Rabbi ———– (I’m editing out his last name so you won’t know who he is) is an idiot.” People didn’t even care! Now how’s that for bringing in a whole new level of people talking in shul on this topic?
Can’t pepper spray blind people? Why should we give gabbais pepper spray?
I think that driving and using a cellphone is causing serious car accidents in Lakewood
