ANALYSIS: Where Did Harris votes in Lakewood Come From?

Although President-elect Trump added to his 2020 numbers in Lakewood, providing him with once again his largest margin of victory of any municipality in the state, there were still nearly 12% of residents who voted for Vice President Harris.

According to official election results from the Ocean County Clerk’s office, Vice President Harris received 4,860 votes in Lakewood, compared to 36,904 for President-elect Trump

But a deeper analysis of all 43 voting precincts in Lakewood show that the vast majority of those votes came from the several retirement communities located in town.

Of the 4,860 votes for Harris in Lakewood, 1,498 were cast in Leisure Village, 447 at the Harrogate Retirement Community, 660 at the Four Seasons community and 405 at the Fairways retirement community.

Those combined locations provided Harris with 3,010 of the 4,714 votes she received in Lakewood, or 64% of her total. The rest were scattered around the town.

In other areas of town, Trump dominated, receiving well over 90% of many precincts.

One notable voting precinct was the combined districts located in the Clifton Avenue Grade School on Sixth Street, in the heart of the Jewish community.

Of the combined 2,398 votes cast at that location, 2,352, or 98% were for Trump, while Harris received just 37 votes, or 1.5%.

Similarly, at the precinct located in Westgate, Trump received 98% of the total vote, or 2,156 votes out of 2,201 total ballots cast. Harris received 28 votes, or 1.3%.

For the 2024 general election in Lakewood, 42,681 voters, or 67.1% cast a ballot. However, not everyone who voted, cast a ballot in the presidential race, with only 42,077 choosing a pick for president.

    • i totally agree! im shocked that so few people went out and voted! we can flip New Jersey if all republicans would just go out and vote! trump lost new jersey by less than 200,000 votes! we’re almost there fellas!

  1. True. Young people have become less involved in politics as time goes by. Smart move on Trump for getting a 39 year old under his wing. Hopefully he will be President one day and have solutions to problems that are younger generations inherite from mistakes we created.

    • I held my nose and voted for Trump, because his policies are good. But if Vance (by the way he is 40 already) had been on the top of the ticket I would not have been able to vote. He couldn’t have picked a worse vice president. Vance is an isolationist and no good for Eretz Yisroel.

      • I think there’s a difference between when they’re campaigning and they get into office and see how governments actually work with or without each other. Israel and the US share intel and depend on each other despite the public threats about stopping arms. Who do you think is cooperating with the US in the Mideast better than Israel?

  2. In the olden days rabbi schenkolewski put a lot of pressure on all of us to register AND VOTE- no excuses
And often if you called with a concern/situation, he wouldn’t help you if you didn’t vote in the prior election.
I, like some other commenters, noticed newcomers saying ehh I didn’t register, didn’t get to it . .
We have an obligation to utilize the rights to participate in selecting govt officials, and showing interest, no apathy!
Ask yourselves: if hagaon rav Shmuel Kaminetsky made it out, shouldn’t you??? Kah at his age!!!

  3. The people in those gated, guarded retirement communities live sheltered lives literally and figuratively cut off from the rest of society. They have their pensions, social security, medicare, and nostalgia of what the democrat party used to be in the days of FDR.

  4. So what! Why is this even published? Why does anyone need to know this and why is this even investigated by the Scoop? You are free to vote for whom ever you chose to…what is the purpose of this article other than to sow resentment towards others who do not vote as a block…

  5. You read my mind. This is a democracy and people can vote any way they want to. I voted for Trump and Trump won! I’m happy. What is the point of analyzing why people voted differently than you? There are people who have minds of their own.

  6. High schools should be encouraging (and facilitating) 11th and 12th graders to register. You can register at age 17 in order to be able to vote at 18.

  7. There might be over 130,000 residents but how many are older 18 y/o? You also have to deduct all the bochurim that are in out of town yeshivas. I think lakewood did well.

  8. Most elderly especially secular Jews vote Democrat only.
Many don’t even know who is running, it may be a terrorist whom is running, but they always must vote democrat.

  9. The point I’m making is that one mentioned about Lakewood 130,000 residents, all I’m saying is that there is not 130 that can vote. And its not that important for all the bochurim from Israel to vote! Jersey is Blue anyway… I’m not saying don’t vote but to make everyone from Israel crazy to vote is not necessarily, necessary.
