A recent study has shown that more children than ever before are being diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). From 2003 to 2008, the rate of diagnosis jumped by 22 percent, according to The Associated Press. Researchers evaluated 73,000 kids and interviewed their parents, 9.5 percent of whom said that doctors had said that their child has ADHD. Government scientists believe that this increased prevalence is due to better screening and more awareness of the condition.
Approximately 5.4 million children have now been diagnosed with ADHD, one million more than just a few years earlier. Full report in Dr. Cutler.
And how many of these children have been prescribed Ritalin as a “remedy”?
EVERYBODY IS DIAGNOSED WITH ADHD WE ARE OVER DIAGNOSED ESPECIALLY WHEN WE GET THERAPY EVALUATION FOR FREE ,THE THERAPIST ARE MORE THEN HAPPY TO DIAGNOSE EVERYBODY WITH SOME TYPE OF DISORDER.
maybe kids shouldnt be sitting behind a desk a whole day from the time they are 5 years old with just a 15 minute recess.
That is really sad!
Agreed with Shifra and there’s no such thing as ADHD.
It’s all in YOUR head. Stop using excuses and start teaching properly! If my kid can’t sit still in your classroom, then you are the one who needs psycho help.
to #3 Shifra yo uare so right we expect more from little kids than we would dare ask of adults. Its for sure the prime cause of this problem which is a REAL problem and those who say its not have not experienced dealing with it or haven’t got a grip on reality. I no from experience, and its real
Parents are creating a generation of Attention defitient kids by allowing and sometimes even nurturing a whole slew of electronic distractions. Kids these days can’t sit still in class because they are constantly thinking about my space, facebook, tweeting, online gaming, texting, chatting, blog etc. Why would they want to pay attention to the happenings of World War I when they are not even aware of current world affairs? The average student’s day is consumed by an unrealistic and disconnected electronic world. While it may be impossible for many parents to entirely cut the cord to all of these distractions, it is important to moderate usage. There is a whole new generation being created with artificial ADHD.

Ok, I wasn’t going to even respond to these posts but I just couldn’t sit back and not say anything. My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD along with auditory processing disorder, so I kind of take offense to some of these posts, she also has special classes in school and see a therapist to help her, she went through extensive testing along with several different hearing tests before it was determined to be what it is, she see a wonderful doctor every 3 months to see how’s she progressing, so it bother’s me when people who know of NOTHING of this disorder blame the parent, just think how you would feel if the shoe was on the other foot.
How many of these skyrocketing disorders are actually caused by the multitude of drugs given to a mother during chilbirth delivery. We have to stop this epidemic and demand drug free births and teach our daughters how hashem intended woman to give birth. Let our daughters not be decieved by modern westernization that turned birth into a medical event with epidurals, pitocin prostoglandins the lists goes on…..Maybe if we bring birth back into the home we will see a lot less of our children having these mental disorders.
I wasn’t on ANY drugs during childbirth. What she has is a type of birth defect! Before people shoot off their mouths about something they NO NOTHING ABOUT, maybe you should get the facts and read up on it instead of making judgements and assumptions.
