lpd suv tlsA man suspected of dealing drugs was arrested by Lakewood police following a high-speed pursuit, police say.

At approximately 8:40pm on October 12, Officers Kristie Buble and Stephanie Campbell observed what they believed to be a drug deal in progress.

As they entered the High Point Condominium Complex, they observed two unidentified males engaged in a brief conversation and exchange. One of the men was seated inside a 1998 Toyota Camry and the other stood outside his window.

Upon noticing the officers, the man outside the car alerted the driver, who then took off at a high rate of speed.

“The Officers pursued the vehicle and were able to stop the car in the area of 515 River Avenue,” Dsgt. Greg Staffordsmith said.

As the Officers were speaking with the occupants, they observed the driver, 20-year-old Mark Barroso of Lakewood, attempting to conceal an item between his leg and the car door.

Further investigation resulted in the recovery of approximately two ounces of marijuana and approximately $1,837 dollars. At the time, a 24 year-old Lakewood woman was a passenger, but was determined not to be involved.

As a result, Barroso was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS, Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS, Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS within a School Zone and received several motor vehicle summonses as well.

Bail was set by Judge Scott Basen in the amount of $15,000 no 10%.
