By Harold H, This is absolute propaganda, and lies. The truth is that Chris Christie knows where UEZ money has been going. He feels it takes 90 million dollars a year, away from the state. He has seen no actual benefits to the townships enrolled in the program, and he has put it on a one year suspension. Sources close to him say that when the suspension is over, he plans to scrap it altogether. For fifteen years the UEZ squandered away our ability to give our town a competitive edge in business and trade.11 million dollars in loans were given mostly to friends, for dubious projects. Let those that were in charge of the UEZ all those years show us where the money went?
Millions squandered on Job Link buses, English classes, that are already given at the library for free. Stadium, Strand. You all know the drill by now.
The sad part is that we finally were able to make our voice heard. The UEZ is being run by a very smart competent, and honest director. Those that have been using the UEZ for personal gain realize they are being scrutinized. We had projects that were in the works that would have helped businesses, and brought a better quality of life to the town. We had high hopes for projects that would have created jobs, helped both public, and private schools, produced revenue, and brought some joy to all residents equally. Those plans will now have to be shelved.
What will not be shelved though is the fact that the only two brainchildren of the past 15 years of UEZ folly will now be our tax burden. When repairs need to be made to the Strand or the Blue Claws stadium we will be obligated to use property tax dollars for these repairs. That means that if Senator Singer decides that someone should install new seats, cup-holders, or lighting poles for 1.2 million dollars, that bill will be paid directly from our pockets.
For now you will still get 3.5 percent sales tax. Businesses will stil be able to buy goods tax free. Those benefits are only a small perk that comes along with being a UEZ designated town.
One interesting thought to consider. I and the Downtown Commission will seek other ways to help fund our efforts, that do not require tax payer money. I highly doubt you will see any of the current UEZ funded projects, return. There would be no government agency willing to fund these suspiciously, unneccessary programs.

Is Senator/Mayor/Committeman Singer up for re-election this year?
ok now we are up a creek without a paddle . are our committeemen going to explain where we are getting the money for these things? or will they just ignore it
Very well said!!
H.H. – You are a voice of clarity in a very murky world.
Committeeman Singer is indeed up for re-election this year.
if you think the yeshiva is endorsing HH you are nuts. our senator does way too much for our kehilla . and the seniors love him, but maybe after this EMS thing he might be vulnerable
good money went down the drain
HH the for Plumber!!
harold 4 mayor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great points. I suggest starting to charge parking at the stadium to fund the Township. Rent it out for concerts. If we cannot generate revenue then shut it down. Don’t spend 1.2 mm for something only bringing in 25k. Do the same for the Strand. If it cannot cover itself shut it down.
Harold, I think you should start a talk show every day. Maybe on 107.9 for about three hours from 9 am till 12 pm.
You speak truth to power, just like Rush
Lakewood is counting on you
if UEZ monies go, so does the down town police on Bikes and the SUV’s. These officers are funded by the UEZ money. Hey singer, I guess this is a way to cut members of the police department. Just keep up the good work and allow christie to take more from us.
a hershel talk show, what an idea!!
hey hershele, do it for free, you can change more than being on the township committee!
#9 all that u suggest about blue claws already haooens annually, I’m surprised that u aren’t aware but where all the monie goes is a mystery. HH would be allowed to commit to a daily radio discussion on politics this would rock the foundation of this township! Enough said please HH concider such an endeavor. I would love to hear your invited guest discuss there side of the issues with you. Brilliant. The stadium should be aquired by the yeshivas, put a dome on it then it will be worth something. The strand I c that going back to being boarded up once again. Too bad
i would be honored to do an hour radio show each week. everyone knows i love to talk. who is offering?
Not sure why you say the seniors love him.
