A Message from Toms River Askonim Regarding Busing for 2023-2024 School Year

Bussing 2023-24 Info:

A message from Toms River Askonim: Hi everyone! You should hopefully receive a message from your children’s schools regarding this important update. However, in case any schools don’t send (particularly those with fewer TR students), here is what you need to know:

Everything will now be done via an online form that is linked below. *All forms must be done this way.* Even if you already submitted a paper form to your school, you must resubmit it online to ensure that it’s processed. (We met with them a few weeks ago and they said they will not be looking at the paper forms this year, as they want everything to be streamlined and want there to be an online record of all submissions.) *If Toms River does not receive your form by the listed deadline, you will not be eligible to receive bussing / aid in lieu.*

Please read the entire page carefully and fill the form out accurately to ensure that it gets processed correctly and so that we don’t run into any issues later. If mistakes are made, we cannot guarantee that they will be able to be fixed.

  1. Dear Askanim,
maybe you should do more to get the kids who are excluded from Lakewood schools into schools before focusing on the bussing crisis?
    Hashem should help you!

  2. Hi Rabbi Rabbinical

Maybe the people in Toms River should raise money so the Askonim can open schools for them ? I don’t know of any schools that have empty desks or small classes and still exclude kids. They are all full. If they have full classes ,then they are certainly entitled to decide who fills these seats. If Askonim had money ,there would be no school crisis. They would keep on iring people and opening the needed schools. But people would rather complain on blogs than to donate the big money necessary.

  3. With the very high birth rate of Orthodox Jews in our area (5000 a year) and expansion of the community into other towns in the region, the busing issue is only going to grow. Jackson township is spending 5 million a year in private school transportation alone.

Multiple public school systems are going to have funding issues like what has happened to Lakewood (hundreds of millions of dollars in debt). Before this happens, I urge the Orthodox leadership and public school officials to start strategically planning for the future and go to Trenton. The funding formula needs to be fixed.
