A message from a Lakewood Police Officer

img_5315“Can you please post this on the Scoop. If an officer is standing in the middle of Route 9 with a traffic vest on and has his hand up in your direction, the officer is not trying to wave hello – he is telling you to stop.”

I was at on Route 9 this morning trying to make a left on to Oak and a lady called over the officer to ask a question – instead of pulling over to ask she sat and had a conversation while the rest of us were waiting!! Is this normal???? something must be done about the traffic!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was passing when the officer was talking to the lady and he was telling her to get off the phone. Traffic has been a lot better with the officers directing traffic. They are very brave to be standing in the middle of route 9. Great job LPD!!!!!

Some times it is not clear if the officer is telling you to stop or to go. They need to hold stop signes.

I always gesture thanking the officer (similar to the way you put your hand up thanking someone for letting you turn in front of them) ….

I suppose I shouldn’t….:/

Each morning on the way to work, I pass this officer at the corner of 9 and Oak.

Each morning I marvel at the difficulty of doing this dangerous job.

Best wishes to you, and thanks!

I wish drivers would stop when people are at a crosswalk waiting to cross the street. Many times there are children or large families trying to get across and cars don’t stop for a second. Maybe many don’t realize it is the LAW to stop. Other towns have signs. It is dangerous. I have stopped to let people cross the street and drivers going the other way don’t or others beep their horns. Rude.

Pedestrians have the right of way. And… get off your phones!
