A Lakewood father shared this story at his son’s Bris on Friday

On Friday morning, a Bris took place in Lakewood, where the father shared the following words:“I stand here at the bris (pictured) of our son ישי with a trembling heart. I still, am trying to wrap my head around what happened this past week.

So that all of you can understand what I am talking about, let’s rewind a bit.

At 6 months of pregnancy, the doctors discover that both kidneys are inflamed. We davaned that the doctors should be wrong.

Month 7, more scans. We start hearing all sorts of scary words – Blockage, Inflammation, Bilateral hydronephrosis posterior urethral valves. Down Syndrome. All scared, we started begging Hashem for a miracle

Month 8 turns into 9 and all scans confirm what the original diagnosis was.

Chazal tell us that a child has 3 partners, Hashem, the Father and Mother.

Mid 9th month, I sat down with my wife and had a heart to heart conversation. We told Hashem that we accept 100% and with love whatever will come our way. Because we know that Hashem as a partner will be holding our hands throughout the process. We decided right then and there in that conversation, that we name our baby ישי which means a gift. We decided on that day decided that we “will” accept the gift no matter how hard it is liable to be.

מלך מלכי המלכים. I stand here today trembling in awe and say א-לי א-לי למה אהבתני. What did we do, to deserve so so much love? Words don’t do justice to describe how much we feel loved from you Hashem. The feeling is euphoric. My wife and I still cant grasp the magnitude of the חסד that you have done to us. Hashem, from the depths of every fiber of our body Henny and I say “Thank you”.

Now that we know what the name  ישי means I would like to give a little history of the name ישי

As we know ישי was דוד המלך‘s father.

ישי was from those four people who never sinned. These 4 Tzadikim died only because of the חט אדם הראשון.

Interestingly, the Gemara in שבת 55b writes that while the source that the other 3 who never sinned is a ישי .מסורה never sinning is derived from Tanach.

The Gemorah in Pesachim 119a, notes a discussion between ישי and Shmuel Hanavi. ישי said, to Shmuel Hanavi “אבן מאסו הבונים היתה לראש פנה”   – “The ‘stone’ that was despised by the builders, became the cornerstone!”

ישי dear, the doctors declared that you are blocked as a stone. Yet right at birth through your poetic use of the power of the shower, you showed them that Hashem runs this world. You came into this world miraculously, a beautiful, healthy baby that even has his Bris on time!!!

What did Shmuel HaNavi respond, and this case Shmuel and Henny Waldman respond   – זה היום עשה ה’ – this is the day that Hashem showed all the Doctors, who is the real Doctor!!!

There is another thing that I would like to give hashem thanks for. Today 73 years ago My grandfather. My father’s father was liberated from the camps by the Russian army!  It was one of the very last camps to be liberated after WWII. Once again I say זה היום עשה ה’

I would like to end off with this.

As I was leaving the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, I couldn’t help but to feel my heart only half full. Although I was leaving the hospital, there are still tens of holy pure Yiddishe Kinderlech in those hollow halls of the hospital that are staying behind.

So I ask all of you to join me and sing along this song, which has the last פסוק in this week’s Haftorah. This song is very near and dear to my heart. The fist time I heard the song was when I was in Sharie Tzedek Hospital 17 Years ago. I had non other then Mordechai Ben David sing it to me as I laid there not knowing if I will ever be able to walk again.

Today I would like to dedicate this song to all the Kindelach who are still in CHOP waiting for their miracle. May Hashem bless them with a speedy Recovery

Close your eyes and open your hearts

My brochah to you ישי  can simply be summed up as follows. Yishai ben Shmuel Yoel is Gematria מי כמכה נאדר בקדש. May hashem bench you to always live a life of godliness.

The father of Yishai is Shmueli Waldman. Shmueli donated his kidney eight years ago, in May, 2010 to a woman with special needs.

  1. Wow. Wow. Truly amazing and inspiring story. I’m just not sure what “power of the shower” means. Lots of Nachas from Yeshai !!

    • He was told that he will need major surgeries to be able to relieve himself. If I said 3 seconds after birth I would be lying. literary the second he came out he “showered” the doctor.
I mentioned it at the bris to show how much of a miracle it was. I was trying to say it in the most subtle way I can

  2. an amazing story i cried as i read it, thank you for sharing, may we all share in many more simchos, may ישי bring light to the whole world

  4. Beautiful! I could’ve written this myself, although with some additions about my baby’s brain along with her kidney. The doctors told us the worst things and the scans were there to prove what they saw was true. Chasdei HaShem, our miracle baby is a beautiful one year old girl, healthy and totally normal! She is a huge neis and the product of prayer. Much nachas from Yishai!!

  5. MAZAL TOV! May Yishai and your whole family be Zoche Ad Meiah V’Esrim Shana to live BeVrias Hanefesh U’Vrias Haguf, to continue passing on the Chasadim that seem to run in your family!

  6. Lets make this a trend on the scoop of writing in our stories of hashgocho and nissim for all to read and take chizuk. Lets make positive stories the reality of our life and keep negative narishkeit at a distance. Yes there is a alternative reality!
