A whopping total of 57 Shuls took part in the ‘Shabbos of Reflection’ reflector-belt campaign this past Shabbos, the coordinator R’ Yehuda Abraham tells TLS. Additionally, over 500 reflector-belts were given out by the participating Shuls and volunteers.
“The response was very heartwarming”, Yehuda Abraham, who himself was struck by a vehicle about 3 years ago, says.
R Yehuda says some Rabbonim even built their Shabbos Zochor Droshoh around this important issue.
Companies who wish to get exposure for their businesses by sponsoring more belts for the community, can call R’ Yehuda Abraham at 732-364-2500, extension 5971. TLS.

Yehuda – you should be zoche to a shefah of brocha and hatzlacha. The oilom just needed this push and you were they to provide it. Ashrecha.
a nice start, but a lot more to do. 57 shuls, 500 given out, thats an average of 10 per shul. 5000 should have been given out, the vast majority of men in this town STILL refuse to wear a reflector. Why, is it “goyish”? what excuse can you have for not being safe?
not one guy were a reflector to the seudas hodah last night commemorating the miracle of someone which got hit by a car. disgusting
to #2, I agree with you 100% Not only should the men wear it everyone should wear it, men, women, and children, even if you are pushing a stroller put one on the stroller, you can never be to safe
There is a yeshivish reflector that all Rabonim & Roshei yeshiva will wear, but it costs a bit more. Can we have some sponsors? I’ll sponsor 50 belts-Any one else?
What makes a reflector “Yeshivish” is it black ?
Yup. Its balck and will still reflect! Pretty cool but it costs more.
Kol Hakovod! This is a great project. I’m glad there are people who still step up to plate for our safety.
I will also sponsor fifty belts. I’ll call the number above to find out where to send a check.
how about some more street lights and traffic lights around town ?
Why Black? Why are people afraid to wear these safety belts
We need more sponsors..where can people pick them up from
It’s black with a silver 1″ stripe, reflects when a light shines on it, otherwise it’s not conspicuos at all. Black is yeshivish. If the rabonim don’t take the iniative & wear it, it will not happen.
Any one else to sponsor the Black yeshivish ones?
I do wear that type for the past 2 years.
why is black yeshivish Im not yeshivish but i refuse to wear a yellow strap its like a yellow star
ShmiraWear has donated 600 reflective snap wraps to the Lakewood Reflector Campaign. Wearing reflective apparel has proven to reduce pedestrian involved injury and fatality by over 45%. The Rabbanim and community leaders of Lakewood want to make sure that we all do our hishtadlus and make sure we are visible. It is heartbreaking to hear about all the tragedies week in and week out. Recent published studies have shown that these types of incidents could be prevented by wearing even a thumb sized reflector! White clothing is NOT reflective!! (See all the statistics and studies at http://www.shmirawear.com)
The reflective snap wraps can be picked up at the Mayor’s office, but if you do take one, we kindly ask that you wear it as often as possible at night and in low visibility conditions. In response to the campaign, we are also offering schools, Shuls, organizations, non-profits, etc. a significant discount on our belts and snap wraps. Please make sure you call and speak with a representative and let them know you are interested in participating in the Lakewood Reflector Campaign in order to get the belts and snap wraps virtually at cost!
Thank you again to all the people who have and continue to work very hard in order to make sure the campaign is a success and that every person in Lakewood is visible to oncoming traffic!
The statistics are mind blowing, nobody thinks it will ever happen to them but if we think about it, almost all of us know someone who has been involved or has had a “close call”.
For additional information please visit our website http://www.shmirawear.com. You can also see, sample and purchase ShmiraWear products locally at Torah Treasures and Judaica Plaza.
We wish all of Lakewood a Freilichen Purim, and remember,
BE SAFE…BE SMART…BE SEEN!
The goal is for every person in Lakewood to wear a reflector at night and in low visibility conditions. We are doing everything we can to support this effort and remove any obstacles…
We welcome and encourage any and all suggestions to help increase awareness; your ideas and support is greatly appreciated.
Weather it is ShmiraWear or any other brand on the market you chose to wear, we implore you to wear a reflector and encourage everyone you know and love to do the same! Wearing a reflector will help set a great example for others and might ultimately result in a life saved without you ever even speaking with that person! The opposite holds true as well, if the kids and even the adults see others walking around town during the week and on Shabbos (yes, ShmiraWear can be worn on Shabbos according to written psak from local Poskim and Rabbanim) in the dark without a reflector than they will likely follow your example…so please make the smart decision and set the right example.
