50 Shuls To Take Part In ‘Shabbos Of Reflection’ Reflector-Belt Campaign

VIDEO: Fifty Shuls have joined the Mayor’s and Yehuda Abraham’s reflector-belt campaign which is set to take place this Shabbos. The campaign, initiated by Yehuda Abraham after surviving his own accident, was in response to the 101 pedestrian MVAs which occurred in the last year in Lakewood. Five of those accident, were fatal.

“As an Orthodox Jew, we wear dark clothing”, the Mayor said. “We need the public to understand that walking around at night is dangerous.” “We’re invisible, it’s dark outside, it could be rainy, it could be slippery”, the Mayor says.

Yehuda Abraham says today he confirmed the 50th Shul taking part in the campaign. The Rabbonim or Gabbaim of the Shuls will be speaking about it this week, and will also be offered a package of reflectors for their Shuls’ members.

Additionally, the Halochos regarding wearing a belt on Shabbos, attached here, will be posted in each Shul. But it’s not just the Orthodox community the Mayor’s looking out for.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to hand out reflectors at their local Shuls or Yeshivah, are asked to contact Yehuda Abraham at 732-364-2500 Extension 5971. TLS.

This is a great idea! I really hope people listen and start wearing the reflector belts.

What's the point?

I wear a reflector VEST, which makes me VERY visible, yet, it makes no difference, because the drivers are selfish. They only care about themselves. Anyone else on the road is worth nothing. I don’t sit around in a car all day. I walk. I stand, and wait for the light to change, and when I attempt to walk, cars come charging at me! I can’t win. When there aren’t sidewalks, and shoulders are my only options, I nearly get rammed by cars passing on the shoulder, because they can’t wait a few moments that could be the difference between life, and death. I FOLLOW the pedestrian laws, please abide by your driving laws!

When I drive at night I’m petrified that I may hit someone. I applaud the Mayor for this initiative.
