5 Easy Ways to Improve Your Home Decor

If your home is looking drab but you don’t have a lot of time or money to throw at the problem, you may want to think about small changes that will make a big difference. Maybe you can’t buy a new sofa or remodel the kitchen, but what if you moved things around or hung something different on the walls? The five ideas below are all little things that you can do in your home that will make a big difference.

One of the most impactful of these ideas is to replace your old windows with new, energy efficient replacement windows. Not only will this give your home an instant facelift, but the replacement windows advantages include increased energy efficiency and cost savings on monthly heating bills.

Change the Lighting

There is plenty you can do to change the lighting for no money or just a little money, and they can really alter the look or the mood of a room. Use lamps instead of the overhead light, or start using the overhead instead of the lamps. Put up blackout curtains, or start keeping the curtains open to make the most of the natural light. Just for fun, get some colored light bulbs. Move the lamps around to see how the room looks different when you put them in different places.

For even more of a change, consider installing Calgary vinyl windows. Not only will they help you save money on your energy bill, they can also give your room a nice new look with the natural light they provide.

Paint a Wall

You don’t have to repaint the entire room. Painting just one wall is cheaper and easier than you probably think it is, and a bold splash of color can transform a room. Think sunny yellow or bright red. Get paint rollers to make the job easier, and invite a few friends over to help out. Don’t forget to offer them pizza and drinks as thanks. Be sure that you protect your floor and furniture before you start painting, and plan on doing more than one coat so the wall looks its best.

One Good Piece

If you aren’t up for painting a wall, think about one large piece that can make a big difference. For example, hanging a piece of fabric on the wall or putting down a distinctive rug can change the feel of the whole room. A mirror can make a small room look brighter and lighter, and mirrors can be inexpensive enough that you could pick up several. If you have an artsy friend or your town has a college, a gallery or a cafe that shows work by local artists, you may be able to pick up a piece of original art for a low price.

Fresh Flowers

Few things lift a room quite like a bouquet of fresh flowers does, and there’s something about regular deliveries of fresh flowers that can really lift your spirits. Change it up every month and save yourself having to stop at the florist or grocery store for fresh bouquets with a subscription to BloomsyBox. These flowers are sustainably sourced, and you can be sure that they are going straight from the farm to your home.

House Plants

Alongside the fresh flowers, you might want to add house plants. If you’ve never had a green thumb, don’t despair. There are plants that do great with minimal attention, but you can also go for something more exciting and exotic, such as orchids or a Venus fly trap. If you love to cook, consider growing herbs in window boxes. If you have pets, be sure that the plants are safe in case they start to nibble on them.
