Municipal Budget Unanimously Passed By Committee

township committee 2011[VIDEO – Updated 9:00 PM] The $67 million budget, which accounts for about 25% of your tax bill, was passed this evening with a 0% increase from last year’s budget. Committeeman Meir Lichtenstien as well as Committeeman Coles commended Steven Langert for seeing to it that the Township was able to maintain a zero increase without sacrificing any services in the process.

Committeeman Lichtenstien and Committeeman Akerman added that the real ‘thank you’ goes to the various departments and Township employees who have made salary sacrifices and worked with minimum manpower in order to avoid an increase.

The biggest bulk of the budget, approximately $25,000,000, goes towards Township salaries. (The rest of your taxes goes to the county and to the Board of Education).

It’s the second year in a row that there was a 0% increase in the budget.

Deputy Mayor Langert also hinted that he would be looking into insurance costs in the Township in order to avoid an increase in next year’s budget.

The Committee unanimously passed the budget. TLS.

  1. I like this PR to get him reelected. We can do much better Mr Langert! You CAN lower taxes if a real effort was made. No increase is lowsy for this economy! Every business is cutting costs except our Township.

  2. Mr. Steven Langert, if you cannot cut the budget, then we (the taxpayers/voters) will have to cut you out of the budget, by not re-electing you to the committee!

  3. Congratulations to the real winners…… The Lakewood taxpayer. All one has to dovish to look at the surrounding towns where they have layoffs and tax increases to realize that we are very fortunate that both are school board and township committee were able to hold the line on taxes. Thank you all.

  4. Hello, this is GREAT! Getting a 0% increase in taxes actualy IS a decrease. Everything goes up in price. Look at your own household budget, fuel and food have gone up in price. So if the township has stayed at 0% increase it actualy means that despite the additional costs of goods and services they were able to cut costs elswhere.

  5. Others intended to gain a seat on the board with the same goals as Mr. Ackerman, such as forensic accounting & tranceparency, etc. Now that Ackerman is there for 6 months, we would like to have a statement as to HIS accomplishments for the taxpayers in all areas.

  6. Most of your tax bill is related to state tax, not township. And don’t be shocked about your tax bill, when you are buying 4,000 square foot homes with 7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and 4 levels.

  7. we should all thank steve for this ,he has worked hours and days to get this done ,he also took a lot of heat for getting this done

    thanks
